Hello Fans of 'Hatfield and The North' and of 'National Health' or of 'However': This should be perfect for you! You'll probably love it. Perhaps the melodies - though being real melodies, or even structures/chains of melodies, not just riffs or hooks - aren't that picky and one-of-a- kind as those from H.a.t.N. or N.H. And Skywhale don't sing. But Skywhale sometimes touch a funkiness you could find on Weather Report's or on George Duke's mid-70s records (when Ndugu and Alphonso Johnson played drums&bass). Sometimes I'm also reminded of "Hermeto Pascoal (doubled flute/sax melodies) and of Jethro Tull. But Ian Anderson - as a flutist - never reached the level that can be heard here. Wow! And Steve Robshaw played (still plays?) guitar by far better than the little too honoured canterbury ikon Phil Miller of N.H. And the other musicians are great also. And inspite of all the references I mentioned: Skywhale do (did) create their own music in between. But one has to be critical also (otherwise this could be a 5*-CD): My CD-copy might be a remastered production. But you really hear they didn't use a mastertape and didn't even have a new and/or flawless LP. On the other hand CD's sound is clear and mostly powerful with a typical mid70s mix. But then I think the title 'World at Minds End' is producing wrong associations. Skywhale (sorry: silly name also) aren't playing in mystical areas beyond. This very fine music is playing vividly here and now (yes, even after 33 years!) And if for instance Robshaw's "mind" would have been "at" its "end", we probably wouldn't find this(!) music here. And the all too psychodelic and quite raw collage of pictures on the cover ... uuuuuh But important is: If you like the samples. Get it! In my opinion it's a must for canterbury afficionados and completists anyway ...

Top musicians, great eclectic music. I'm delighted to have it on CD, as I'm always worried I'll scratch my vinyl. All the tracks are great, but my favourites are Boggles and The World At Minds End. Skywhale and this album will always have a special place in my heart for personal reasons.

Cant really add anything further to that said by previous reviewer. Great to hear this music again - must say something that I have been looking for this album on CD for around 30 years after hearing a friend's original on vinyl. Thanks to the internet and CDBaby, I finally have it. Did any of the band members go on to other similar projects?

It's 30 years since I saw these guys play their thrilling music LIVE at Europe's biggest free festival. For me, this album and the people on it are National Treasures, just listen and you'll see why; this CD is so full of joy, so ram-packed with the complex rough and tumble of existence, it gives you THE WORLD spinning in your ear.
