Slam Buckra, singer/ mystic/songwriter/poet/guitar/slinger extraordinaire, has performed over 2,500 club shows, festivals and concerts from Seattle Washington to Ensenada Mexico, from Austin Texas to San Francisco.
He has shared the bill with Johnny Winter (10 times), Morphine, Eric Johnson, The Violent Femmes, Brian Setzer, Salt n' Peppa, The Plasmatics, Mose Allison, Blue Oyster Cult, The Greyboy Allstars, Willie Nelson, R.E.M., James Blood Ulmer, Leon Russell (seven times), NRBQ, Mojo Nixon and many many more.
Slam Buckra has traded guitar licks onstage with blues gods Albert King and Albert Collins.
And has seemingly swapped musical grey matter with Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa.
The 16 songs on "Dames n' Gallows" display an amazing spectrum of musical styles, all interpreted through the slightly twisted mind's eye of one Slam Buckra.
There is quirky pop (a' la High Llamas/Pet Sounds), loopy driving funk, avant garde blues, folk dirges, a tribute to John Lennon, country blues and more! The lyrics are dense and full of wild imagery in a style similar to the word sculptures of Van Dyke Parks, mid 60's Dylan and Captain Beefheart.
"Dames n' Gallows" is a wild and timeless excursion through a very colorful and original sonic wonderland.
You can dance to it, or attempt to wrap your mind around it.
Either way "Dames n' Gallows" is a "one of a kind" adventure!
Here is what some music reviewers thought of "Dames n' Gallows":
"Fucking brilliant."
-Jackson Griffith, Sacramento News & Review
"A lyrical masterpiece...it's eclectic mastery reminds me of The Beatles' White Album."
-Julie Fern, Blues Print
"Funky dada landscapes...definitely worth hearing."
-John W. Young, Chico News & Review

Slams done it this time
author: Bruce L
A record full of great material, perfectly delivered. Slam Buckra is a true artist. A blend of blues, funk, skunk, jazz, groove, whatever works. And it does. The cerebral , extemperaneous performance makes it all the more impressive. From the brit inspired "Suite Aunt Catherine" and "The Real McCoy" to the delta feel of "Black Betty" and the poetic epic "Bleu Parachute Noose" Slam covers it all, and then some. A major effort from a major talent.
