Album Notes

EXCERPT FROM PUBLISHED REVIEW OF "LUCKY SCARS":

"Slam Buckra's LUCKY SCARS is chock full of wailing guitars, tight ensemble playing, quirky chord progressions, time changes and mild profanity. The spirits of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart are evoked throughout the collection of songs. The music is consistantly excellent...funky, jazz-fusion groove...A WONDERFUL CROSSOVER JAZZ-POP MASTERPIECE..." Brian J. Kenny, The Redding Record Searchlight

That's right ladies & gents, another exciting and variegated offering from the unique and fascinating musical mind of Slam Buckra!

welcome to the funhouse !!!!
author: Bruce L
The funky , twisted jazz , warped delta , bent blues style of Slam Buckra works well again , bringing life to some great songs . Wry humor and excellent guitar work shine on songs like "Whoopsy!" a hangover love story , the wacky "Blizzards O' Boomerangs" and the more traditional "Go Go Go" . Slam never disappoints . At times brilliant , always interesting . Zany , colorful , acid-drenched lyrics set to music that makes them seem appropriate . He definitley thinks outside the box , and does it well . Varied and cohesive at once , every song's an an adventure. From the funked down groove of the title cut ,to the jazzy , sentimental "Long Island Dream" or the lascivious "Stick It In" Slam Buckra delivers . Like a more surreal and much happier Bukowski , with Robben Ford chops , Slam gives a reading to storypoems "Mustafa Calhoun" and "Tear Heaven Out The Sky" that don't fail to intrigue or entertain . A carnival for the music freak , a shock to the uninitiated , a blackball from gigging at any future political conventions , Lucky Scars is many things , but never boring or predictable. A treasure to anyone who values originality , musicianship , or just great music .

Wild Ride!
author: Joseph Rice
Wow! There's a great deal of musical variation on this CD with more than a few unexpected (and sharp) turns. Genre busting blues and Zappa-like funk mixed with jazzy ballads and a comic country number. The wild lyrics just never stop coming. All over the map, but very fun and musically intriguing.
