Album Notes

Recorded in the summer of 2007, "Old North" runs just shy of an hour and takes The Slant's stylings on their previous album, "Animanatomy" to a new level. Michael Katzif of NPR radio says of "Old North": "...the songs all seem to share a timeless quality: Referencing a rural life filled with old trees by rivers, harvest moons, circus big tops, and even Civil War imagery, the songs seem to inhabit an America long since gone." Separated into two halves, "Old North" explores many different areas of music; ranging from light, dark and everything in between.

Unfortunately, this album could become a mainstream success but that's just my old selfish issues surfacing again. I guess I can't keep it to myself but I can enjoy it for a spell! Emotionally, I compare this to same feeling you get when you here live Howie Day (Ever heard the version of Ghost on the Conan show...killer!) or Dave Matthews darker tracks... It's different, poetic, and moving. It's a angelic array of instruments and vocal harmony. Open your ears and take a listen
