Album Notes

Out of the ashes of the mid '60s Detroit Psychedelic scene (and burrowing underground for 35 years or so) comes Sleazy Geezer.

Transplanted to the left coast in the early '70s, Sleazy Geezer instigator Marc Chover resurfaces with the bands' first CD: "Geezerphoelia". Chover's special combination of mirth and seriousity withstands the test of time, manifesting itself in Sleazy Geezer's "Retro Hetro" style. A frequent performer on the Michigan folk/blues scene of the '60s and early '70s, Marc was also a founding member of the Southbound Freeway and Horny Toads, trend setting groups in the psychedelic and new wave styles.

As a neophite guitarist, Marc had the good fortune to meet, and pick with, Reverend Gary Davis, Jesse Fuller, Brownie McGhee, Cisco Houston, Mississippi John Hurt, Ian Buchanan, and numerous other "fathers of the blues". He also did session work in Detroit with: Dennis Coffey, The Funk Brothers, Parliament Funkadelic, John Morier, and other Detroit based artists.

While "Geezerphoelia" was recorded primarily in California, many of the players have strong Detroit musical roots or connections. Drawing on their long involvement in blues, classical, folk, jazz, and rock, Sleazy Geezer creates a familiar, yet, offbeat musical melange. Definitely not your average booze bland!

Contributing musicians include: Roland Bautista (ex. Jazz Crusaders and Earth Wind & Fire), Jerry Cox, Larry Robinson (The Dorado's), Steve King (The Dorado's), The Burbank Horns, David Levine (ex. Detroit Symphony and Horny Toads), Eddy Kay, Gary Frisbie, Jenny Lind, Al Norman, Dana Parker, and Michael Angeloff.
