ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Slewfoot Project. Americana before the genre technically existed. Back when we started, we called it folk-rock-jam-pop-alt/country. The music you hold in your hands is an accurate reflection of our influences as four disparate backgrounds converge to make Slewfoot music. This 10-song collection is the culmination of 3+ years of writing and performing and was recorded live over two nights in October of 2000, at Cool Beans coffeehouse in Oradell, NJ. The origins of The Slewfoot Project can be traced back to 1996 with an informal agreement on the part of Bryan and Billy to add their talents to a recording session for a handful of folk songs Kevin and drummer Tom Fisher had been playing in local coffee houses, cafes and bars of northern NJ/NY. An open invitation was extended to join the live act and we continued on, unnamed (or as Kevin & Friends), through the cassette release party in 1997 for “Inside the Rain” at Frantik cafe/gallery in Tappan, NY. It was around this time when Kurt, who was running the kitchen at Frantik, began to jam with the group during his breaks/nights off. Kurt’s edge was an agreeable compliment to the group’s sound and soon we were gigging regularly with him as a member. It was at this point that the loose collection of songs began to take on more of a focus and concentrating on original material became increasingly more important. Our regular (seemingly weekly) gigs at the Coffee Dog Cafe in Harrington Park, NJ allowed us many opportunities to jam and work up new material in a live setting. The Slewfoot moniker soon followed, as well as a faithful legion of regular fans. Somewhere along the way we lost Tom but we still had the appropriate accompaniment for our acoustic-based music with Billy’s wall of percussion instruments. Unfortunate circumstances led to the closing of our unofficial home base, the Coffee Dog. Following this, we continued to gig regularly at various locations throughout the area but soon found another “home” at Cool Beans coffeehouse. It was at Cool Beans where we attracted regular crowds and ultimately found a room suitable to document some of our songs. This is a live recording and, although there are some miscues, we selected songs that we feel capture the spirit of those nights. Who knows what the future may hold.... We Hope you dig it!

Kevin Cubberly - Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica
Bryan Schmidt - Bass Guitar
Bill Scalzitti – Percussion
Kurt Stahl - Electric Guitar, Backing Vocals, lead Vocals on The Firelight

Mini-Masterpiece
Every once in awhile there comes a new release that just screams classic. The Slewfoot Project "feels like home" is exactly that, a classic mini-masterpiece. Opening up the record is "On A Monday" a rock/country/pop crossover song about a long relationship that finally fizzles out when the two just can't communicate any longer. Next up is "The Road" which has classic written all over it and tells the story of being out on the road in a way that truly captures the listeners imagination. Other stand outs are "No Good at Goodbye", great guitar work abound in this jammmer. "Living Room" a cover of the David Gray song that is lively, upbeat and the bass playing really shines. "America Under Your Wheels" will leave you feeling haunted by it's crying guitar and heartfelt lyrics. Enough can't be said about the craft work of these songs, the warmth of the vocals and the musicianship created on this record. All in all this really is a classic and should be added to your collection ASAP!

Feels Like Home = GOOOD STUFF
Great album front to back... Really cant say enough good things about these guys, and this album.. Perfect mix of folk rock / alt country, and some good ole ROOTS BASED ROCK!! If your into that sound definitely check these guys out.. Great acoustic sound, killer guitar thrills... An all around great sound... MUSIC FOR THE SOUL... Definitely check it out.

Rivals Allman Bros & Jackson Browne
This album is incredible. Kevin Cubberly's lyrics to the track "Still Life" rival anything that Jackson Browne has penned and Kurt's leads make the Allman Bros sound amateurish. GREAT album by an up and coming band!

Slewfoot Project
I'm not even a fan of the genre but after giving this CD a try I might be now. Toe tapping for sure - the music is an easy listen and the soulful lyrics get you singing long rather quickly. I look forward to more work from this band.

Quite a pleasant surprise!
This disc was suggested by a friend who knows the band. I was skeptical a first but was was pleasantly surprised with how professional sounding and seasoned this band is for being relatively unknown. With repeated listenings, I found the catchy melodies spinning in my head. This disc is constantly playing in my car stereo and has only gotten better and better. The songs are great, they musicianship top-notch and the mixture of styles keeps it interesting and me coming back for more. If you are a fan of alt/country, country/rock folk/rock you will love this disc! Kudos to this band. More please.

Outstanding Coffe House Sound!!!
AS of fan of the coffee house sound this album is outstanding - for me it is a mix of DMB, the late Harry Chapin, and James Taylor. Love it, love it, love it!!!!!

Outstanding album
If you’re a fan of country/blues/Americana like me, you’ll really dig this album. Tracks like “No Good at Goodbye” and “Never Coming Back” in particular have great guitar jams and show off the band’s outstanding musicians. “Angelina” and “Living Room” remind me of some of the best Allman Brothers songs. I’m so glad I found this album, it’s a must-have for anyone who appreciates great songwriting and musicianship!
