Album Notes

The time was the mid fifties.
The place was Chicago's South side and the music being played in the clubs and taverns was the blues.
A new kind of blues... it had been electrified.
Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and Elmore James are just a few of the names that were the leading pioneers of the time.
It was the “golden age of the blues”.

Slim Jr pays homage to some of these fine blues artists with some hits from those Chicago days as well as from their Delta roots. Rick Smith, Larry Spalding and Brian Reed are pleased to share with you their love for this unique American music with a CD that stays true to the roots of the blues.
Yet, blending two harmonicas, ukulele, slide guitar and vocals, Slim Jr. puts a unique sound on these blues classics.

Nice raw blues
author: John O\'Connor

This is not jazz blues, or even rock blues, this is just plain old fashioned blues. Reed on harmonica is great, and Spalding and Smith are at worst good and at best excellent. The ukulele is used primarily as a chording rhythm instrument and the guitar lines are based on traditional blues licks. I do wish they would do more two harmonica stuff, though. Perhaps Reed taking lead and Spalding answering. This is a good CD, though, and more than worth the price.

Slim Junior is the Real Deal!

Slim Junior has added a little Hawaiian flavor to their blues with the addition of Larry Spalding's splendid ukulele. Rick Smith is an excellent guitarist and it's easy to see why harp player Brian Reed is often called "Big Tone"! All three of these guys can sing too! This CD offers up a nice selection of classic blues. Slim Junior is the Real Deal! www.stoddardshale.com

I really enjoyed this CD. The addition of Larry Spalding's ukulele to the traditional blues, as well as the great vocals is great. Love you! Patti from Costa Mesa.
