great disc of bluesey rock and roll - a happy bit of retro!
author: Mad Italian Bros. Ink.
As a first recorded statement, this eponymously titled disc comes out of the speakers speaking a credo that denies the early '90's grunge revolution ever happened. This band's music continues the line started by the great blues-based bands of the 1970's (Led Zeppelin, early Aerosmith), through the hair days of the mid '80's (Ratt, Black and Blue, & Great White). Back when rock was FUN and one should have a good time.... all of the time!
A tight rhythm section with multi-guitars layered on top make this disc a pleasant purchase -- instead of the usual structures used in this genre, the songs take you into newer territory, with various twists and turns, making for a fun, surprising ride! Ben Felice's solos are well thought out and played both skillfully and emotionally (check out "Over the Edge," "Down to the River" and "It's Not Me."). Carl Hampton's vocals have the occasional odd pitch twitch, but are delivered with a gusto that's been lacking in much of the polished pop one hears these days.
