ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
LOUISVILLE ECCENTRIC OBSERVER 1/19/05 by Stephen George

"I have never cared for bands like the Goo Goo Dolls and the hordes of other low-rent, emotionally-available pseudo-glam rock bands whose image and music are symbolic. Image and songwriting capability should be mutually exclusive. It's about self-respect.

Slygo is a hardworking Louisville band that gets comparatively little credit. They sound a lot like the Goo Goo Dolls. Refreshingly, though, the back cover of this album is a simple black and white shot of the foursome in an empty warehouse. Just like the album, there is no pretense, and that is what makes it better than the Goo Goo Dolls. The title track is a slick ballad with Wallflowers verses and an Oasis chorus, a harmonica fitted tightly in the seams. There's also a healthy obsession with intimated Spanish guitar here. As long as they don't become pretentious somehow, Slygo will remain a solid band."

ERIC OSTERMEIER, CO-FOUNDER OF WORDS-ON-MUSIC RECORDING LABEL

"I think my favorite so far is 'Mouthplay' which has a bit of Goo Goo Dolls/Replacements feel to it- and I really like the bridge. A close second would be the shuffling closer 'Follow You' which has a really nice, subtle color. That guitar solo on '1000 Miles Away' is another highlight. Overall, I'd say the production and performance are top-notch."
