Smadar's music is best described as rhythmic Mediterranean music peppered with a gypsy sound. Smadar's self-titled debut album was recorded in 2004 and has received much praise. Smother Magazine describes it as "Middle Eastern music floating through your body tickling your cerebellum with its delightful strings and complex percussion. Rhythmically it's danceable and whisks you off to the Middle East. You hear the struggles of the area playing out through the Arabic lyrics and haunting vocals."
