This first release from Spencer Murray Group is a collection of spontaneously composed tracks recorded live in the studio over two days.

Spencer Murray Group plays a lively mix of groove oriented and introspective jazz and features an unusual acoustic/electric lineup: 2 bassists Jon Evans (of Tori Amos' band) on electric bass and Spencer Murray on acoustic, percussionist Ricky Carter on a mixture of African, Latin and jazz drums, guitarist Brian Hill on acoustic guitar and keyboardist Michael Bluestein on Hammond organ and synthesizers.

The members of the quintet had known each other for some time via one gig or another around San Francisco, and came together in 1997 simply because they enjoyed each other's styles.

Spencer Murray Group provides an opportunity for the players to stretch and experiment, and follow one another's lead in the creation of the music, right on the bandstand.

This CD captures that same funk inflected spontaneity created live in the studio.
