A fine work of art........

When I found out Craig recorded an album in Nashville I just had to hear it. What I heard was perhaps Craig's best work to date. It showed his maturation as an artist and the evolution his music has taken over the years. Yet, some of the tracks oddly brought me back to his earlier recordings, including his Tomfoolery days. Craig's gift for melodies has always been evident, but the songs on this album reveal his true gift of writing thoughtful and powerful lyrics.

Best album to date... again!

Once again, Smith has managed to produce a very solid collection of creativity. This four song EP follows a very logical progression starting with Forever Dream and builds all the way through Jennalee, and Everywhere You Go. Then the EP ends perfectly with an almost somber attitude of Come + Go. Smith has an incredible gift when it comes to lyrics. Words carefully chosen allow for any listener to relate 100%. And the hooks, the melodies? Your music player will be screaming for more, but unlike today's pop music, there will be no reluctance to play it again and again. It's an incredible album - well done!

The hooks bleed through and melodies get stuck in your head.

Having listened to the entire EP at least a dozen times, I am in a position to write a "review". Two artists came to mind as I listened.
First, Elliot Smith for the starkness and the introverted lyrics. It's been a while since I listened to "XO", but that comparison jumped out at me.
Second, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), mostly on "Come + Go". The chord progression and vocal create an atmosphere not unlike "Caroline, No". I'd be curious to hear the song with multi-layered harmonies, especially with the open tuning and use of major 7th chords.
The songs are strong enough to stand alone in their limited production environment. The hooks bleed through and melodies get stuck in your head.

Craig Smith offers his listeners some of his best work with great songs like "Jennalee", which Mr. Smith claims is his favorite. Even though it is a four song EP, The Nashville Sessions offers a perspective into the life of Craig Smith.
