MARK SMITH BIOGRAPHY
Mark Smith is a singer/songwriter from Kitchener, Ontario
Canada. Growing up in the Ottawa Valley, Mark has been writing and performing for over 10 years. An original
artist performing solo with his guitar and keyboard or as the lead singer in a rock band, he has traveled around Ontario with various groups, from Reson(1995-1997),to
Carbon (2000-2003). Working as a musician for hire, Mark has also gigged with Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill tribute acts.
Mark has recorded a number of albums: Messing with the Muses (1997)and Scream (1999) with reson; strangEXIT (2000)
and 3EPS (2001) with Carbon. Enjoying radio play both
commercially and on campus radio, Mark had a song featured on the Nickelodeon television program "Kaitlyn's Way". Producing and recording in the last two years with Koil, Mark has also had music featured in the motion picture "Desperate Souls"
Mark's repertoire of original songs is diverse and deep. Ranging from country to heavy rock, ballads to electronica, his music spans many genres and is well over 250 complete songs (both music and lyrics). Mark also writes music for other artists: he has drafted whole albums for both men and women on request. For his own performances, however, Mark thinks of himself as a cross between Rufus Wainwright, Matchbox 20, and Trapt; offering
emotional delivery, powerful stage presence, and vocals that range from delicate to fierce. He calls his work "intelligent rock" with lyrics that are more about content than a radio-ready slogan.
Currently, Mark is pursuing recording, producing, and licensing opportunities with Koil at Sonica Disturbia. He
also gigs around Ontario as a solo artist and works occasionally with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill tribute acts.
