Micheal Smotherman's songs have been recorded by the likes of Roger Miller, Glenn Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Rait, Earl Thomas Conley, The Allman Brothers, Deana Carter, Lila McCann, Trace Adkins and Brooks and Dunn.
It was upon meeting fellow songwriter, producer and former member of the group Bread, Robb Royer, that the focus style and direction was achieved for Micheal's Conjureman recordings.
"Imagine meeting Randy Newman at his home...imagine he had never played his songs to anyone. Then suddenly you see a stack of song demos in the corner of the room, 500 of them... Smotherman is like that. I just scratched the surface of his work to produce Conjureman. I feel that these, and probably a hundred others, are 'artist-songs'...songs that you fully understand only when you hear them by the writer/performer. Micheal is that kind of an artist", says Royer.
Micheal Smotherman describes his album as "Quincy Jones meets Roger Miller at Ray Charles' party in New Orleans kind of music."
A few of Micheal's credit...
- Toured extensively with Roger Miller and Fleetwood Mac's "The Zoo."
- Co-wrote with Deana Carter for her multi-platinum album, Did I Shave My Legs For This?"
- Wrote Lila McCann's career breaker, "Down Came A Blackbird."
- Co-wrote title track for Trace Adkins double platinum debut album, "Dreaming Out Loud."
- Wrote the entire Glenn Campbell album, "Basic."
- Wrote 7 songs on the next Glenn Campbell album, "Highwayman."
- Co-wrote "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" by Ray Charles.
- Writer of more than ten #1 songs on the Country charts.
- Wrote numerous songs for film & TV, including songs for "The Thing Called Love" and "Pink Cadillac."

Heartfelt, passionate, skewed, danceable...a voice with range and poetry and...you know, innards.
Truly a (frequent!) repeat listen.

I love Conjure Man and I agree with the others about Michael Smotherman, the first album. It should be out on CD as well. I remember how much I enjoyed the video Crazy In Love. It would be great to see it again! Smooth and Jazzy. Love you Michael!

Micheal is a new friend of mine, and he told me of this CD. Glad he did. He has a beautiful voice and I LOVE all the songs on this CD especially "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" and "Angel Mine". Thank you Micheal, it sits next to my other favorite CD's, Korn and Cher. Hmmm
