solid song writing with solid musicianship

This CD is good ol' Americana at it's finest. From the opening lyric, "Waste my precious youth on cigarettes and booze" to the album closer "Tulia" (about the Texas town with the same name), Nelson's lyrics captivate the listener. These are no silly pop songs boys, these are real tunes with some real meaning.
Whether singing about having some outdoor fun in Austin or crooning about that pretty lady at the end of the bar in some ol' honky tonk, each song paints it's own picture.
The guitar and keys stand out stong in their own right, too. From guitar swells that you'd swear were a pedal steal to the clavinet solos you'd swear was an electric guitar, you can tell that Nelson has enlisted some real talnet for his band.
All in all, not to bad for a first CD that these boy's did all themselves.

Strong varied song writing with strong support on keys and guitar made this CD very easy to leave in the six disc changer. This band surprised me live and this studio effort does as well...granola rodeo, troubadour, eliza lou, and especially tulia impressed at least one country rock-n-roll fan.
