Welcome to our CDbaby page. We hope you enjoy the song clips and want to have us near your CD player. We enjoyed making the recording and hope to have a bluegrass gospel CD out in the next few months. Read our review on this album from "ibluegrass" in the review section.
Scotty was born a native Oklahoman at Concho Oklahoma in the Cheyenne/Arapaho Indian Hospital. Proud of his Potawatomie heritage, he has lived in Harrah Oklahoma for the past 24 years.
At the age of eight he began singing and playing the guitar on radio, stage and TV. He has appeared with such stars as George Morgan, Faron Young, Carl Smith, Red Foley, Brenda Lee, Ernest Tubb, Marvin Rainwater and many others of the Grand Ole Opry and Ozark Jubilee. He also appeared on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, Louisiana as a special guest in April and November of 1976. Both were sell-out performances. He has also appeared on the Oklahoma Opry in Oklahoma City.
Over the years, Scotty has had several bands of his own and has written several country and gospel songs as well as recording them. Presently, he has a band "SET'N-PRETTY - a bluegrass/country/gospel group - singing lead vocal and playing the dobro. He also plays the guitar and bass.
Tommie - Scotty's wife - is of Cherokee heritage and is in her own right an accomplished singer and spoon player. She sings harmony primarily and sometimes lead vocal as well.
Since Tommie joined Scotty in his music, they have appeared on several shows together. These have included appearances at the Oklahoma Opry in Oklahoma City, Mountain View, Arkansas as well as numerous bluegrass festivals, promoting their bluegrass festival. They also spent a week in Avoca, Iowa in September of 1999 at the traditional music fest. They host a bluegrass jamboree the fourth Saturday of each month at the Harrah Music Hall. Their band, SET'N PRETTY, plays at least once a season at the Oklahoma Bluegrass Club shows and the Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Music Society. In October of 2002, they will be at Silver Dollar City, Branson MO the 7-11th.
Scotty and Tommie have recently released their first CD, The Angel Song. The fine talent of "The Arbuckles" in this endeavor backs them.
In August of this year they will host the fourth year of the Midwest Bluegrass Festival. Begun as an effort to increase bluegrass music appreciation and participation in the central Oklahoma area, this festival has received great response and they hope to continue it for several years. You can find details of this festival at their web site as well as appearances elsewhere by this popular duo. www.geocities.com/tommiehoward/
A big fan of traditional music, they specialize in playing only traditional country, bluegrass and gospel songs. Their most requested number is a song co-written by Gene Autry in 1947 and sung in his first full-color move, The Strawberry Roan in 1948. This is also the title song of their new CD, The Angel Song.

Bob Everhart of Tradition Magazine writes as the first part of his review- Scotty & Tommie Howard are two of my favorite old-timey bluegrass performers. I remember the first time I saw them was down in Gene Autry, OK, and I was so impressed with their version of Long Journey Home I went right out and learned it from their recording. Scotty has a really fine voice, sincere, honest, pure and Tommie adds that just right harmony. Did I mention Scotty plays one fine Dobro? In the old style, just right. The welcome mat is always out for them at Avoca IA.

This CD is a darn good one. You can tell from the selection of songs that it's good and old-timey. They picked some dandies, and they both sing really well together, but with that special touch that lets some like this couple stand out. What a fine CD to listen to early in the morning as I'm doing these reviews. Good work and well done, my favorite this time around. (Will appear in the September-October issue of National Traditional Country Music Association, Inc. Tradition Magazine.

An excellent review of this CD (in next issue of ibluegrass)
author: Skip Ogden, Ibluegrass
iBluegrass receives many independent CDs for review. In all honesty, we don't review all of them because, well, many are just bad. Really bad. When this CD hit my desk, I was afraid it was the same. I was wrong.
The vocals of Scotty Howard had a familiar sound, like a cross between Mac Wiseman and Larry Sparks. Scotty's lead vocals are strong and true. The accompanying harmony from wife Tommie is quite competent. Together, they brew a succulent and pleasing sound. Very traditional but not brash.
The musical accompaniment on this album is provided by Scotty's reso guitar and the band "The Arbuckles." I don't know anything about the band but they are mechanically tight.
What stands out about this album is the quality of the recording. It is well done, clean, clear, crisp. Nicely mixed. Recorded at T&T Studio, the recording was produced by Don Thomas and engineered by Steve Thomas. Excellent job.
Scotty and Tommie Howard of Harrah, OK, built this CD from the ground up and did a fine job. The included release notes were complete, gave good background information and provided an Email address and website for further information. Any bands handling their own CD should take a lesson from the Howards.
This CD exceeds contemporary standards for entirely self-made albums and is better than some material the labels bring us. It's good and I recommend it.

...i was very impressed with the entire production.
author: Howard Vokes, Pennsylvania's King of Country
Excellent singing with fine musicanship with "hi-lite" on the DOBRO. A few of my favorite songs were included in the CD project as well. Since we do so much USA/OVERSEAS promotions for the ole time artists and some independents, this is the kind of CD gets our attention...
