Album Notes

Window of Stone was inspired by the thought that we are the Result of the Past and the Roots the Future: Imagine an Ancestor in the past looking to the Sky towards the future - trying to Glimpse a Vision of a better Life Free From Toil. Then think of the corollary; a Descendant in the Future looking Back to the Ruins of the Past for Lost Remnants of Romance.

I traveled to Boston to hook up with Chris Michaels, an incredible drummer I used to hang out with at when we were at Berklee in the Late 80’s. I hadn’t seen him for about five years at the time. During a week in August 2001, while staying in a suite over looking Boston Commons, I wrote a dozen tunes for this album with an old four track and my six-string bass. I had only one day with Chris Michaels and he laid down the drum tracks for all eleven of the tunes that make up this disc in that one day. We didn’t have any mic stands, so with some creative use of duct tape, we tweaked the best sound we could of his Vintage Gretsch kit, set up a click track and ran through all of the songs. I can’t stress enough what a blessing it is to work with musicians of this caliber.

I probably put in a thousand hours or so into the recording mixing and editing of all the tracks. Each song has a similar orchestration on top of the drums with the six-string bass, a sub bass, keys, acoustic guitar, clean and distorted electric rhythm tracks, and lead tracks of bass, acoustic and electric guitar. I then also created the 3-D models of the Space Station and the gothic windows to generate the digital artwork. The disc flows between songs with transitional sound effects reflecting the storyline.
