A REALLY Strong First Album
This is a really good first album. I was fortunate enough to have known Soft Black while he was still working through some of these songs and I'm very impressed by the results.

Blue Gold definitely has the feel of a freshman effort, but it rings with a passion that you can't get from an over-produced studio album. This is something special. It touches on some very raw emotions, but in a very accessible way.

Santa Fe is as classical as a classic folk song can be, and you can't listen to The Room without being transported there. The Gods of Love and War...this is just a really strong song no matter how you cut it.

Stylistically similar to a stripped-down Bright Eyes, Soft Black has an emotional catch in his voice that can't help but draw you in...whatever it is he's singing sounds significant.

Again, this is obviously a first effort, but a very impressive one. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

One of the best new songwriters I know of...
The record is great. The songwriting is along side the very greatest. Soft Black's rise is inevitable. I'm not a close friend, or family, or anything. I'm just a songwriter who has caught a few of his shows. Soft Black is as bright a shining star I've seen come on the scene in 10 years.
