Above the Arctic Circle is the fourth full-length from Chicago punk popping indie rock champs, Soft Targets. This new disc shows the band improving on their sound and delivering their most focused effort to date. Recorded, as always, with engineer Kris Poulin at PRECISION! Studios, the Softies deliver up ten delectable tracks of of solid rock and roll. The album kicks off with the hard-rocking kiss-off “Arctic Circle” which gives in to the jazzy demands of “Right Now”, followed by the Minutemen-ish “World Won’t End”. The infectious pessimistic pop of “Don’t Trust Anyone” and the, dare I say it, funky “That Just Happened” add further punch to the package. And of course, you don’t want to run afoul of the Soft Target’s alter-ego, “Trouble Squad.” Just sayin’.
