Album Notes

Sliding comfortably between jangly guitar pop songs and shoegazerish epic noise, some of none never seems quite content to sound the same from song to song. The ten tracks on their second release, "As Long As the Light Remains" should appeal to fans of Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Pedro The Lion and any person with a love of emotive, earnest rock and roll.

The group originally formed in 2000 in Birmingham, AL where they began writing songs and playing local clubs. Their self-produced, self-titled debut album was recorded in 2001, and independently released in January 2002. "As Long as the Light Remains" was recorded and mixed throughout 2003, at AudioState 55 in Birmingham; and was released by the band in late 2004.

"As Long as The Light Remains", is a fantastic follow up to their self-titled debut CD. There are so many tracks that I want to tell you about, but instead I'll talk about all of them in general. These songs are addictive. I almost have to force myself to listen to other stuff, because the CD is seriously that good. There is so much raw emotion in the lyrics and it is heightened by the talent in their playing. The third track on the record has a bass line that would rival any song by RUSH. These guys say their music is like RADIOHEAD and PEDRO THE LION, but trust me those two groups don't have a song or album as good as SOME OF NONE!

"As long as the light remains" is a significant maturation from Some of None's rookie effort. Clean production and tight performances lock down a fluid and emotive (yet not emo) sophomore album. At first listen the dual vocalist style and stomp box friendly guitars reminded me of Sloan's first album. Additional spins reveal flashes of My Bloody Valentine and Doves. Some of None maintains their own sense of self throughout the disc- the opening track would make for a great radio single but weighs well over the traditional 3 minutes needed to satisfy traditional radio pukes. Moody and dark without being pouty pricks about it- Some of None are an act worth paying attention to.
