Album Notes

SonaNyl, formed in 1998 was a Boston band well on the way to success. Featured at many of the best clubs in Boston and receiving airplay on stations such as WFNX and WBCN Sonanyl was in the process of putting together a national tour when lead singer and songwriter Johnny Ellis was severly injured in a car accident on Christmas Day of 1998. Johnny was in a coma for 3 weeks and the prognosis for his full recovery was poor. Bandmates Joe Tobias and Dan Shaw came to Johnny's aid and would play songs they had previously written together so that he might regain some of his memory. After months of physical and cognitive therapy Johnny slowly got better and the band, after sticking together, found it was time to get back on track and into the recording studio. The result of this effort is "Gone". This comeback CD was produced by legendary Boston producer David Minehan(2consecutive years as Boston Music Awards Producer of the Year). Receiving critical acclaim from both the local and national press "Gone" placed #14 this past summer in the CMJ top rotation additions with other groups from labels such as RCA, Matador and Elektra. S SonaNyl is currently putting the finishing touches on their follow-up release entitled "YOUNG". The SonaNyl sound has been compared to the Beatles, the Cure and indie pop bands like the Rosenbergs and the Gigolo Aunts. Its angelic yet demonic. Its cuts through the room like a warm, smelly fart on a hot summers night. And like that fart-once you hear it you'll know its special.
