LYRICS BELOW:
1. Nothing But Peace
Copyright 1986 Jim Scott
Nothing but peace is enough for me
Nothing but peace is enough
Nothing but peace is enough
Nothing but peace is enough for me
Well I’m feeling such mixed emotions right now
I’ve got to say it to someone
We’ve got to do this more than just holidays
Got to be in it for the long run
For the long run
How can weapons of war be weapons of peace?
We are fighting in a different fashion.
We too are working for peace through strength
Though our strength is in our compassion
In our compassion.
Well, the going is easy, the going is tough,
But more of the world we are reaching
To the makers of war we say we’ve had enough
It’s only peace we are teaching
We are teaching
Chorus in Spanish: Solo la paz es sufficiente,
solo la paz para mi
Solo la paz para mi,
solo la paz es sufficiente
2. Only Love Can Do That
Copyright 2003 Richard Mekdeci
Darkness cannot drive away darkness.
Only light can do that.
Hatred cannot drive away hatred.
Only love can do that.
Darkness cannot drive away darkness.
Only light can do that.
Hatred cannot drive away hatred.
Only love can do that.
Oh, you soldiers of peace,
Hatred has an enemy.
If we want the fighting to cease,
Remember these words from the fallen king
Darkness cannot drive away darkness.
Only light can do that.
Hatred cannot drive away hatred.
Only love can do that.
We all must try to be
an instrument of peace
Remember an eye for an eye
leaves everyone blind
And our children never see
Darkness cannot drive away darkness.
Only light can do that.
Hatred cannot drive away hatred.
Only love can do that.
‘Cause only love can heal
And only love can keep the fear away
And only love is real
And only love will come to save the day
Darkness cannot drive away darkness.
Only light can do that.
Hatred cannot drive away hatred.
Only love can do that.
Darkness cannot drive away darkness.
Only light can do that.
Hatred cannot drive away hatred.
Only love can do that.
5. Of This World
Copyright 1999 Becca Christel, Tracy Spring, Janis Carper
I can ease the suffering of this world
I can ease the suffering of this world
I can ease the suffering of this world
With my head, my heart, and my hands
With my eyes I can see the way things are,
the way they should be
Hope and vision come to me,
giving life new meaning.
I can ease the suffering of this world....
And in my heart I can feel
the ebb and flow of life revealed.
Pain and sorrow all will heal
with love and true compassion.
I can ease the suffering of this world....
With my hand and with my sweat
I will do what’s not done yet.
With tenderness and no regrets,
embrace the work before me.
I can ease the suffering of this world...
I will not turn my head
I will not close my heart
I will not still my hand
Until my work is done.
I will not turn my head
I will not close my heart
I will not still my hand
Until my work is done.
I can ease the suffering of this world...

Background info about some of the artists on the CDs:
Richard Mekdeci...
...is president and co-founder of Itoi Ministries, a non-profit ministry dedicated to promoting music with a universal spiritual message through the yearly New Thought Songwriters Tribute. Contact Richard at: richard@itoiministries.org or visit out website at 222.itoiministries.org to learn more about submissions and voting in this year's Tribute.
James Durst...
...has been quietly touring the planet since 1965. He has performed his songs for audiences of all ages in more than 44 countries and 47 of the United States, drawing from a rich and ever-evolving repertoire of distinctive original and collected songs in 18+ languages that reflect a global perspective and underscore the sense of interconnectedness we share with all of life. James engages each disparate audience in a participatory journey distilled from his travels, musically monitoring the pulse of the human condition, bringing us closer to our world and each other.
Becca Christel-Palm, Tracy Spring, and Janis Carper...
...have collaborated on dozens of songs. "Of This World" was initially recorded for a Seattle Folklore Society compilation album, and in 2004 was released by Peter, Paul and Mary. Becca graduated from Cornish with a degree in music theory/composition and was certified in 2004 as a Protools Recording Engineer. Becca writes, records and performs her own music and has helped a number of aspiring artists do the same. As a music director for the Center for Spiritual Living Tacoma for 17 years, Becca has been a part of the Season for Nonviolence movement since its conception in 1998. Tracy writes, performs and speaks about word poverty solutions through her work as Northwest Regional Director for Global Impact. Janis and her family relocated from Seattle to a farm in the wilds of eastern Oregon, where she is founder and executive director of the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance. She is owner/operator of Second Chance Productions, a website design business, and also enjoys teaching guitar and songwriting to kids and performing with her blues/rock band "The Alibis."
Janet O'Connor...
...writes songs that change the world--if only for a moment--by making it a more comfortable place to be. She invokes the wishes of our collective unconscious and confronts life's ugliest monsters, such as addiction and mental illness, with brave simplicity. Raised by folks who still go to the cellar for food instead of the store, Janet creates songs that offer a reminder of how unencumbered life can be. Janet also provides moving workshops using music and the spoken word for churches, recovery groups and other spiritual gatherings. She is an able guitarist whose intricate accompaniment supports a comfortable voice which has a unique color all its own: strong, tender and personal. You don't just hear it. You feel it.
Greg Tamblyn...

Greg has become known for his heartfelt songs about the power of the human spirit, as well as his award-winning, off-the-wall send-ups of modern life, like "Common Side Effects Include" and "My Life Is a Beer Commercial." He is originally from Kansas City, having survived life as a professional songwriter in Nashville, where he appeared nationally on The Nashville Network. Greg also hosts spiritual exploration tours to exotic destinations like tibet, Peru, China, Bali, and Kansas. He performs for a wide variety of groups interested in wholeness, and has written and recorded six CDs. His latest, as well as his current mission in life, is "Saving the World from Whiny Victim Love Songs."
Rudi Harst...
...is a writer, speaker and performance artist who has shared his words and music in concerts, conferences, churches and corporations throughout the country since 1979. He is co-founder and Spiritual Director of the Celebration Circle of San Antonio, an interfaith congregation with a creative approach to spirituality. David Roth...
... performed his song "Earth" at the 40th Anniversary of the United Nations in New York, and has appeared at more than 200 New Thought churches across North America over the years. The landslide top vote-getter at the Falcon Ridge (NY) Folk Festival's Most-Wanted competition (1996) and NAIRD Indie nominee (1994 singer-songwriter album of the year) strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with his unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, and powerful singing and subject matter. Since emerging from another nationwide field of several hundred songwriters to open the 1987 Kerrville (TX) Folk Festival as its New Folk Winner, the Chicago native (and two-time national anthem singer for the NBA's Michael Jordan-era Bulls) has garnered accolades for his performances, workshops, writing, and recordings. The former artist-in-residence at New York's Omega Institute has also been a songwriting judge at Kerrville, Napa Valley (CA), Tumbleweed (WA), and the South Florida Folk Festival. David's "Rising in Love" was performed at the 100th Anniversary of Carnegie Hall in 1991, and "Manuel Garcia" and "Nine Gold Medals" both appear in the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. The message of the adinkra cloth
by fiber artist Lisa Kerpoe
The cloth used on the inside CD cover draws inspiration from an African technique called adinkra. Traditionally used for funerals (adinkra means “goodbye”), adinkra cloth is now used for a variety of occasions. There are over 100 adinkra symbols, so each cloth carries its own message based on the combination of symbols used.
Lisa chose eight symbols to convey the following message:
It takes courage to change the way we deal with conflict, to recognize the unity in our diversity and act in peace and harmony. We will succeed if we learn from the past, and keep faith, hope and forgiveness in our hearts.
Lisa wrote: “I felt compelled to create this cloth, perhaps as a way to spread a message of hope. It’s easy to feel hopeless when one reads the headlines, with conflict and fighting in many parts of the world, and daily violence in the local news. I do have hope. I believe we can make a positive change...quot;that each of us has the ability to act in peace and that by doing so, we will have a positive impact on the world. My intent is for this cloth to bring hope to others and to inspire people to effect this change in their own lives.”
Lisa Kerpoe is a fiber artist living in San Antonio, TX. She dyes her own fabric and uses stencils, stamps, silkscreens, and bleach discharge to create patterns on the fabric. The fabric is then used to create one of a kind clothing, home accessories, art cloth and wall hangings. Lisa left the corporate world 7 years ago to pursue her art. Since that time, she was accepted into the Illinois Artisans Program and is a member of a local textile artist guild. She teaches art classes at the Southwest School of Art and Craft, ArtCloth Studios and Inspire Fine Art Studios. The “Peace Cloth” has been on exhibit at churches throughout the country since 2003, spreading it’s message as it makes the journey.
Contact Lisa at greentassel@aol.com if you are interested in having the cloth on exhibit

Earth
Copyright 1981 David Roth/Maythelight Music (ASCAP)
( David performed this song at the 40th Anniversary of the United Nations in New York.)
Dream of a day when we can live without anger
Dream of a time when we can live without pain
Dream of a way that we can live without hunger
Dream of a sign that the Earth can be peaceful again
What can we do to get our people looking higher?
What do you do in the darkness but look for the light?
We can join hands and do whatever we desire
And we’ll never fail as long as our reasons are right
We’re gonna live in peace. It’s our only chance on Earth
Get all that fighting to cease, and remember what life is worth
Each of us has the power to bring about changes
Though society separates us from the time of our birth
We won’t live here much longer if we live as strangers
And no time at all if we don’t learn how to live with the Earth
Combining our efforts instead of being parted.
Sharing a vision that we will have a new dawn
Remember that love is how it all got started
And don’t you know that love will keep it going even after we’re gone
What can we give the Earth that we haven’t given in the past
A way to live here on Earth, make it last and last and last
Dream of a day when we can live in communion
Dream of a time when we can live without fear
Awaken a way to get all of us working together
And know that the time when the Earth can be peaceful is near
And know that our thoughts and our actions are honest and clear
And know that the people on Earth will be safe from all fear
Know that the time when the Earth can be peaceful is here.
I Am a Seed of Peace
Copyright 1997 James Durst
I am a seed of peace, seed of peace, a seed of peace.
I am a seed, a seed of peace
I am a seed. I am a seed of peace
Peace, peace, peace, peace.
People of peace, rejoice, rejoice
For we have united into one voice
A voice of peace, and hate of war.
United hands have built a bridge
Between two shores
We on the shores have torn down the wall
We stand hand in hand as we watch the bricks fall
We’ve learned from the past and fear not what’s ahead
I know I’ll not walk alone but with a friend instead.
I am a seed of peace, seed of peace, a seed of peace.
I am a seed, a seed of peace
I am a seed. I am a seed of peace
Peace, peace, peace, peace.

My Own Day
Copyright Todd Hoke
If I had my own day everyone would have a home.
Nobody would go hungry. We’d all know that we belong
The birds would be singing. The sun would brightly shine
If I had a day to call mine.
If I had my own day no nation would be at war.
The guns would all get dusty. We’d forget what they were for.
The generals would go fishing. They’d close the Pentagon.
If I had a day all my own.
And I know I’m dreaming.
This all sounds naive.
In these time in which we’re living
It’s so hard to believe things like love and human kindness,
That there’s a better way.
Ah, but you just watch what happens, come my day.
If I had my own day, my Grandmother, she’d be proud.
I’d see her smiling down from heaven
and I’d hear her laugh out loud.
She’d say, “Boy, it does this old heart good
To see the things you’ve done
Now you’ve had a busy day
Sleep well my Grandson.
You’ve had a busy day.
Sleep well my Grandson.”
My Piece of the Peace
Copyright Janet O’Connor 2005
We pray for people who hunger.
We pray for peace.
And we’re fighting over the answer.
C’mon people, please.
Well I’m not a soldier, but I’ll lay my weapons down
Self righteous indignation buried in the ground
I cannot hope to help you see ‘till I have found
My own piece of the peace.
My own piece of the peace.
There’s a war over the ocean and a war in my heart
I’m thinkin’ it seems the war closest to home
Would be the best place to start
Am I withholding forgiveness?
God has withheld nothing from me
Self seeking desperation stole my liberty
I cannot hope to help a soul until I see
My own piece of the peace
My own piece of the peace
Feel the sting of the anger and feel the love
We must be wise as a serpent, harmless as a dove
Well I’m not a sailor, but I’ll sail the seven seas
I will carry a candle. I will love my enemies.
Set my light on a hill and let it shine from west to east
That’s my piece of the peace.
That’s my piece of the peace.
My own piece of the piece of the peace.
We Share the Dream of Peace
Copyright 2003 Sue Kroupa, David Roth, Jana Stanfield
My skin may be a different shade, my language not the same,
We pray in different places, call God by different names.
My clothing may not be like yours, might stand out in a crowd,
But in universal Spirit, there are differences allowed.
We have the precious present
And our presence holds the key
To a world that is more loving
As we share the dream of peace,
As we share the dream of peace.
My arms embrace my children. I fall in love. I cry.
I marvel at the sunset as another day goes by.
But halfway ‘round the world I know, your rain brings rainbows, too.
Though we might seem so different, I am just the same as you.
We have the precious present
And our presence holds the key
To a world that is more loving
As we share the dream of peace,
As we share the dream of peace.
Imagining the future, remembering the past,
Together we can co-create a vision that will last.
We have the precious present
And our presence holds the key
To a world that is more loving
As we share the dream of peace,
As we share the dream of peace.

Hearts on Fire
Copyright Rudi Harst
Hearts on fire, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, burning with the flame
Hearts on fire, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, never be the same
Never be the same
the same old same old isn’t working anymore
a new way is coming won’t you open the door
Our culture’s in shock and our future’s in doubt
but with our hearts on fire we can find a way out
Hearts on fire....
Young man, old man, woman and child.
Each and everyone of us is born to be wild
Born to take chances, to learn to fly
With our hearts on fire we can dance through the sky
Hearts on fire...
The old world is dying, can’t you hear the alarm
Each and everyone of us is called to arms
Arms of loving, arms to embrace
The changes that are happening in the human race
Hearts on fire, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, burning with the flame
Hearts on fire, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, never be the same
Never be the same

One Day on the Fields of France
Copyright 1994 Greg Tamblyn, Ramblin’ Tamblyn Music

(A true story from the first world war)
One day on the fields of France, some soldiers went to war
I was among those brave young men who’d never killed before
And when the battle was over I found blood on my hands
And that night I wrote a letter and tried to understand
Dear Hanna Roenecke, my army holds a victory tonight
But I am haunted by the memory of one young foe as he died
And in his hand he held a picture of someone that he loved
And on the back the writing told me that I had killed your son
And he seemed to be about my age, too young to feel life end
In some other time and place we might have been friends
And the reason I’m writing, as strange as it may seem
Is to ask if you could ever somehow forgive me
Months have passed since I shipped home, today a letter came
I felt my fingers trembling as I read the sender’s name
And as I pulled the letter open my heart filled up with fear
Then as I read the words she’d written I blurred them with my tears
Dear Sir, she wrote to me. My son was the source of all my joy.
And my heart breaks each time I think I’ll never see my boy
And just as you cannot know how I feel to lose my only son
I cannot imagine how it feels to take the life of someone
But if you could come here to my home and let me see your face
Spend a few hours here with me. Take my young man’s place
Then I think that we might better know
this pain that’s shared between us two.
And then I think that I could let him go and somehow forgive you
It’s what we all were taught so long ago, so I will forgive you.

Instructions for folding paper cranes can be found on the www.songsofpeace.org website.
The baby blinks her eyes as the sun falls from the sky
She feels the stings of a thousand fires as the city around her dies
Some sleep beneath the rubble,
Some wake to a different world
From the crying babe will grow a laughing girl
Ten summers fade to autumn, ten winters’ snows have passed
She’s a child of dreams and dances
She’s a racer strong and fast
But the headaches come ever more often
And the dizziness always returns
And the word that she hears is leukemia and it burns
Chorus: Cranes over Hiroshima, white and red and gold
Flicker in the sunlight like a million vanished souls
I will fold these cranes of paper to a thousand one by one
And I’ll fly away when I am done
Her ancestors knew the legend...quot;if you make a thousand cranes
From squares of colored paper, it will take the pain away
With loving hands she folds them, six hundred forty-four
Til the morning her stumbling fingers can’t fold anymore
Her friends did not forget her...quot;crane after crane they made
Until they reached a thousand and laid them upon her grave
People from everywhere gathered, together a prayer they said
And they wrote the words in granite so none can forget
This is our cry
This is our prayer
Peace in the world
This is our cry
Guardians
Copyright 2001 Adrienne Jones of Mad Agnes
After a morning there is an evening
And when the evening’s gone, another day
If your heart’s broken it will be mended
For we will rise for you like guardians.
And we will sing your soul to keep
And we will keep the dark at bay
And we will lift you up to greet the morning.
If in your lifetime this world of troubles
Should come to peace among the nations
Your heart, in gladness, would leap to heaven
And nevermore you’d need your guardians.
But we will sing our world to keep.
And we will keep the dark at bay.
And we will lift you up to greet the morning.

Peace Is Our Birthright
the p.e.a.c.e. process
and interfaith community development
Written by
Rosalyn Collier and Ann Helmke
Core Team Members of the
San Antonio peaceCENTER
Prayer and action are perceived in many traditions as two separate expressions of faith. They are cousins perhaps, yet not necessarily part of the same baby. This can also be said for peacemakers and faith-based community organizers. While having the same broad goals, they may not be perceived as having the same methods.
Just as each one of us is birthed into the world, this book is born out of love, the human experience, and hard labor. What is conceived in this book is the simple process of action springing from faith--an approach that is naturally within us and that we
carry with us wherever we go.
Peace is our birthright. Peace births and nurtures our common-unity, our community. We merge prayer and action, peacemaking and organizing into one approach through five simple concepts: pray, educate, act, connect, enthuse. We give concrete examples and suggest practical ways of creating peace in our community and the world.
