On her new disc Sonia Lee has a triumphant story to tell.  After years of wrestling with the demons of alcogolism, she has come around free from the shackles of the oppressive prowess of the aqua vitae.  Needless to say, her arduous ordeal is reflected in this mostly self-composed corpus.  Abetted by an understated and acoustically folk-like underpinings, Sonia tells her stories without reservation or fan fare.  Rather, with her girlish yet pristine vocals, she sings each note with a limpid honesty. On the title track, for instance, she reflects: “I was chasing my dreams with each drink that went down/It’s like chasing a train that’s miles out of town.” Corollary to her struggles are also her spiritual confessions of dependence on God.  To this end, “Let Me Lean on Your Love,” “God Shaped Hole,” and “God’s Time, Not Mine” are devotional musings that feed the soul.  Also, noteworthy is Lee’s cover of Keith Urban’s “God’s Been Good to Me.”  Eskewing Urban’s rockish glitter, Lee’s version is down home with an almost bluegrassy feel, making this testimony of faith even more compelling and engaging.  All in all, this is more than just your average flare of country music.  This is music that inspires; music that offers a second chance after failure.  In short, this is music that matters.
