The Sonic Nation is not a jam band. We are a group made of jazz musicians that play non-jazz music. The album, released on SNP Records, is a collection of single-take live tracks, and there are no overdubs. The "connecting" tracks in between the albums songs were created by drummer Caleb Dolister by mixing and sampling segments from previous live shows.
The Sonic Nation Sound
One way to describe the sound is by thinking of a gritty indi-rock band, but instrumental and playing grooves, and improvising. Another way is to imagine a live drum & bass electronic experience, but with no pre-recorded samples, midi triggers, or playback tracks - we do everything live.
Our Method
It starts with a frame of musical ideas, which we combine with years of group experimentation and improvisation. Acoustic sound is electronically tampered with to create on the spot unique soundscapes. Now mix in the rhythm, much like a DJ drops the needle on a record, and bring in the beat.... and you start to get the idea.
The band's performance combines a wide range of influences and styles to captivate their listeners. The resulting music is an intense ride for audience members that effortlessly jumps through genres.
The Sonic Nation is primarily based throughout the West Coast of the US.
