Album Notes

A new millennium melodic metal- pop-rock sound!
Sonic Orchid is a Canadian rock band based out of Regina, Saskatchewan. The group has been performing regularly in the prairies since 2002. After Sonic Orchid formed, it was apparent that the band had it\'s own style and began writing lyrics and music. Each member brought various musicality, experience, and influences to Sonic Orchid. With every new song and live performance the group’s music evolved. Christina (lead vocals, keyboards and guitar) bringing her own personal experiences, thoughts and feelings into her lyrics and music- Brad\'s (lead guitar and vocals) love of melodic rock and hard rock riffs - Grant (drums and vocals) and CJ\'s (bass guitar and vocals) own professional musical styles, makes Sonic Orchid\'s sound a kind of new millennium melodic metal-pop- rock.

Sonic Orchid’s first EP, released in 2005, simply entitled Sonic Orchid, has sold many copies. The group’s new full-length CD entitled, Love & War, has been released in April,2008, maintaining its current classic melodic hard rock style, but now incorporating orchestrated arrangements and melodic progressive metal infections into its sound. You can preview the new songs at sonicorchid.com and myspace.com/sonicorchid sites. The new songs have been well received and have been gaining popularity. Sonic Orchid has fans from all over Canada, the United States, U.K. and Europe.

Creating a buzz successfully independently, the group has performed in various venues and festivals throughout Western Canada and through Internet networking and promotions. The group\'s music is being sold through live shows and Internet distributors such as iTunes and CD Baby, and has been well received by music enthusiasts worldwide. The group\'s music is presently being played on many Internet radio stations and Western Canadian community/campus radio stations, and has gained much media attention through local print and TV. Tracks from the recording received a favorable nod from Billboard Magazine\'s International Songwriting Contest and were also selected to appear on a compilation CD with the likes of classic rock legend, Joan Jett.

The collaboration of band members gives the grooup more than 20 years of experience in the music business. Sonic Orchid\'s goal is to establish themselves as an independent recording and touring act. The group has performed in various venues across Saskatchewan including: Regina, Rock n\' the Valley Festival at Craven, Moose Jaw, Nipawin, Melville, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and La Ronge. They have also performed in Manitoba in Minnedosa at The Grand Beach Festival, Brandon and Winnipeg. In the summer of 2006 they toured into Alberta playing in several major cities and towns. The group\'s popularity in these venues has brought them back to play several times per year, securing contracts in most of these venues for repeat performances. Sonic Orchid has completed its first mini-tour in Alberta in 2007 with much success and was very well received. The group is planning this tour again in 2008, working into British Columbia, Alberta, Manitova, as well as possibly the United States.

Sonic Orchid\'s influences are rooted in some of the forerunners of rock. The group assumes the worldly messages of U2 and Journey, adopts the soulful sounds of Led Zeppelin and The Black Crows, gives a hint of AC/DC and Iron Maiden hooks, and sprinkles a dose of the new gothic/metal stylings of Lacuna Coil. Coupling classic rock hooks with new melodic metal expressions, Sonic Orchid\'s music is catchy, sing-able, and appeals to a diverse audience.

Perfectly Balanced Album
author: Sonic Orchid Fan
I got my copy of Sonic Orchid's "Love and War" a couple of months ago and have been savoring the music. I feel compelled to write this review because it's one of the most honest albums I've listened to in quite some time. The first track "Fight For Your Right" is the perfece human anthem... we've all been in that place where we need to stand up and this song is like a weapon to prepare your mind and body to do so. One thing that struck me about this album is how well balanced it is. In tempo, style, emotion, musicality, lyrically... it has everything you would want. My favorite stand out cut is the song "Alive Again". It's such a touching song with lyrics I think a lot of people can relate to. It pretty much reduces me to tears every time I hear it becuase in Christina's voice, you just hear the pure, honest truth of what she is singing. All of the band are super musicians and Christina has that amazing ability to bring to the vocal table the sincerity and honesty that is really lacking in most of today's rock vocals. This is a great album and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of pure rock with a metal edge to it.
