Album Notes

Sonny's music is a reflection of the world he sees around him. He writes intimate songs that speak of love, heartbreak, speeding tickets and hotel rooms. His piano-based compositions and earnest voice lie somewhere between pop, rock, folk and country, and they will alternately tug at your heart and make you smile. His debut CD, entitled "Coming Home" was released to critical acclaim and he was a finalist in the Just Plain Folks 2006 Music Awards in the male singer/songwriter song category.

The last of the eleven songs on the CD is based on his experiences of September 11th. The singer/songwriter in Sonny mentally captured the unfolding events of the day, providing the backdrop for the story that would be captured in the title cut for the record. The song "Coming Home" tells his story of survival from the 81st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center in a beautiful, almost haunting, manner, bringing the listener inside the confusion, fear and panic of the September 11th attacks while at the same time offering a message of hope for "better days ahead."

"Coming Home" was recorded at 36th Street Studios in Charlotte. It was produced and engineered by Joe Kuhlmann, who is fast becoming one of the best producers in the Southeast US. It features a number of great performers, including Jim Brock (drums/percussion) who has performed and recorded with Kathy Mattea, Janis Ian, Jimmy Buffet, Joan Baez, Joe Walsh and Joe Cocker; Rick Blackwell (bass) who has toured with Janis Ian, Crystal Bernard and Kathy Mattea; Dustin Hofsess (guitar) a member of Green Light, an instrumental-only modern jazz trio, who has played with John Scofield, Charlie Hunter and the Jerry Garcia Band; Tim Gordon (sax) who has toured for many years with the Four Tops and the Temptations as their sax soloist; and Mark Stallings (organ/keyboards) who can be heard on new releases by country star Kathy Mattea and Christian artist Bebo Norman as well as R&B legends Maurice Williams and The Chairman of the Board.
