Captivating, enchanting, and imitable is the voice of Gospel Recording Artist “Sonnie Day”. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan known as the Gospel Music Capital, undoubtedly another tremendous gospel voice surfaces. Singing since the age of four, Sonnie has always had an interest in music, ministering throughout her childhood years. Singing in her first talent show at the age of four. She is known throughout the gospel music industry for working behind the scenes and promoting many of gospels greats such as Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Vickie Winans, Trinitee 5:7, Kurt Carr, Karen Clark-Sheard, J-Moss, etc..Her first recording was participating in the Detroit Sings Nu Hymns under the direction of high school classmate, Grammy nominee Deitrick Haddon. Sonnie Day has shared the stage with Fred Hammond, Karen Clark-Sheard, Witness, and Israel & New Breed. Her music has been quoted by many industry representatives to be, “Anointed, moving, soul-stirring, and simply good music.” Sonnie Day was nominated for four 2006, 2007,2008 Detroit Music Awards for Best Gospel Artist, Best Gospel Musician, Best Gospel Recording, and Outstanding Gospel/Christian Songwriter. Sonnie is the 2006 Detroit Music Award WINNER for “Outstanding Gospel/Christian Songwriter” and the 2008 Detroit Music Award Winner for “Outstanding Gospel/Christian Songwriter and Outstanding Gospel/Christian Vocalist. She is the Founder & Director of a teen girl program called “RubyGirl” where transforming girls into ladies is the mission. Her program has serviced over 300 girls throughout the Metropolitan Detroit area and has been recognized by the Governor Granholm, Mayor Bing and Detroit City Council.
