Starting out in 1991, the Sonny Hess Power Band took the town by storm, winning Portland Music Association's Crystal Awards for Outstanding R&B Act and Best New Artist. They were also nominated by the Cascade Blues Association for Best New Band and have opened shows for artists such as Etta James, Jr. Walker and the All Stars, Average White Band and Bobby Womack. Sonny Hess is dedicating this double CD set to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. Sonny was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, had surgery in November and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Upon arriving home from her first chemo treatment in January, she found her home on fire. The proceeds from this project will help cover medical expenses and replacement of personal belongings. A percentage of the profits will be donated to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. This two disc CD set was recorded live at the Candlelight in Portland three days before Sonny's surgery. Many of her talented musician friends came down to be a part of this recording: Lisa Mann, Leah Hinchcliff, Pete Dammann, Cee Cee James, Chris Baum, Margo Tufo, Jim Hively, Kelly Pierce, Brandi Hess, Lady Kat, Mary Curtis, Tracy Ferrara, Lee Blake, Bruce Withycombe, Jeff Frankel and Johnny. Included in this double disc set is the last recorded performance by legendary harmonica great, Paul Delay.
