I was born before the Second World War (how can anyone be that old??) - but as yet haven’t published my War Songs CD, so here it is,some things are hard to talk about,this was hard for me,it got some of the agony out,hope you hear what I mean.My father was killed in ww2,mother didnt last long after that, grandfather lost an arm in ww1and I picked up enough sadness,hunger,and fear to write about for the rest of my life. I dont talk of it any more and this cd took some away
HI, I’m Sonny Rolfe, a songwriter with some successes under my belt, but not enough by far. I now live in Western Australia and have done since 1967. I live with my partner, Jan, without whom I could not function as a songwriter- she does my printing, types my scribble. does my email. designs covers etc, etc - every songwriter should have a Jan . . .
I have daughters, a son, grandkids and am very lucky, I am fit, love travelling Oz, usually get to Sydney every few years, though I don’t play live very much, except for the harmonica!
My favourite colour is colour, my favourite music is music, my favourite beings are women. My song ideas seem to keep coming, I probably have hundreds of started projects, finished about eighty. I have won awards, had Top 5 nominations and Commendations for songs, lyrics and instrumentals. I play harp, guitar, button accordion - to some extent. Influences in my music I suppose must be the Stones, Roger Miller, Sarah Vaughn, Johnny Dankworth, Tommy Riley [harp], dozens more - Aussie stars John Williamson, Paul Kelly, Sara Storer lots more!
I have enjoyed all my interviews on Community Radio around Oz, and am looking forward to coming around again! I hope you like some of my music, that is my best reward. My latest CD on cdbaby is ‘A Kid Like Me” and my next up-and-coming CD is called ’Decade’, it will be up on cdbaby soon . .
