New Memory Lane
author: Suzanne Gatti
Sons of Nothing might be a catchy name, but it certainly doesn’t capture this band’s fundamental nature. After several listens, I am still amazed at the substance within their music. It’s like a trip down memory lane with new discoveries along the way. Much like a good movie, you can find something new each time you put it on. Sons of Nothing, and their self-titled album “Sons of Nothing” are a high energy, no bullsh*t kind of band. Their lyrics are profound and thought-provoking; almost nostalgic, with a bluesy rock edge. Influenced by such bands as Styx, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, and even Pink Floyd, S.O.N. manage to capture the essence of classic rock using today’s musical influence as well. I recommend Sons of Nothing for anyone looking for something creative and out of the ordinary; anyone who is bored with the hum-drum, cookie-cutter mold music of today’s rock radio. I also highly recommend it for those who take road trips. It’s a great car CD! 3 1/2 stars!
