Album Notes

The Sorry Sisters, Mary Betts and Barb Davis began playing mountain dulcimers together several years ago. When they first started playing together, they would stop and say, "I'm sorry" when they made a mistake. After hearing this, one of their friends said they sounded like the Sorry Sisters. The name stuck. Barb and Mary belong to a muzzle-loading club, the Florida Frontiersmen that puts on a living history event called the Alafia River Rendezvous every January in Homeland Florida. They must dress in pre-1840 clothing during this event. They have been playing music at this event, along with some local churches, hospitals and nursing homes. Most recently, they were asked to perform at the Will McLean Folk Festival near Dunnellon Florida. Most of their music is from the 1800's. The Sorry Sisters wear their pre-1840 clothing from the rendezvous when they perform.

Their album, "Sweet Music" includes several traditional fiddle tunes, such as Whiskey Before Breakfast, Cripple Creek, Old Joe Clark and Black Mountain Rag. Their slower tunes are more zen-like, such as Wayfaring Stranger, Grandfather's Clock, and Mountain Lullaby, written by Mary Betts. September on the Mississippi, written by Larry Conger, Summer Solstice, by Sue Carpenter and Sandhill Crane, by Will McLean are also included.
