Album Notes

New York City resident Mark Soskin is one of the premiere jazz pianists performing today. Soskin has performed and recorded with many of the finest jazz musicians in the industry. He has worked with the likes of Sonny Rollins, Stanley Turrentine, Gato Barbieri, Herbie Mann and many others.

Soskin has a large recorded output as leader,co-leader and sideman, and can be seen on music videos such as: Sonny Rollins-"Saxophone Colossus," Gato Barbieri-"Live At The Latin Quarter" and "Calle 54." He has been featured in numerous jazz publications including Downbeat and Jazz Times, as well as Ira Gitler and Leonard Feather's Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz.

Soskin studied music at both Colorado State University and the Berklee College of Music. He lived in San Francisco from 1974-81 working with a wide array of excellent players including Joe Henderson,Pete Escovedo , Sheila E. and Billy Cobham. Soskin's first recording, entitled "Rhythm Vision" on Prestige Records, was produced by veteran Orrin Keepnews and was in Billboard's top ten jazz chart. His follow up recordings continue to garner critical acclaim.

Since moving to New York City in 1981,Soskin has maintained a busy schedule,touring extensively throughout the world. He has been featured in numerous festivals and along with his various groups,he has performed as a solo pianist(Ottawa Jazz Festival). Soskin has also recorded with the prestigious St. Luke's Orchestra . He is currently on the faculty of The Manhattan School of Music.
