Album Notes

SoulAviv is a four person vocal group based in Santa Barbara, CA. If Debbie Friedman met Aretha Franklin, with The Mamas and The Papas sitting in on harmony, it would sound like SoulAviv. Our songs combine high energy soul, gospel, and world music grooves with spirituality and celebration for a performance that grabs audiences from the first note.

‘Aviv’ means springtime in Hebrew, and our music is, we think, something new. This CD combines influences from Motown, African rhythms, traditional spirituals, ancient prayers, and even a little Bob Marley for a collection of songs that speak to the human need to make the world a better place.

Erin Berkowitz – Vocals
Growing up in Las Vegas and performing musical theater throughout her career, Erin attended The Boston Conservatory of Music, lived and performed in New York City, and then moved back out west to study yoga. She now lives in Santa Barbara, teaches yoga, teaches children, and sings and dances as much as ever.

Jamie Green – Vocals and percussion
Jamie, a recent transplant to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles, is an award-winning singer-songwriter, a Stanford grad, and the Santa Barbara director of Hip Hop Kidz, an after-school dance program. She is currently finishing up her third solo album, to be released by the end of the year.

Liat Wasserman – Vocals
The granddaughter of a rabbi on one side and a cantor on the other, Liat, our Israeli-born soprano has music in her genes—literally. She studied voice at the Eastman School of Music in New York, and spent much of her free time, before kids, singing in a jazz-pop a’capella group. Since moving to Santa Barbara from the Big Apple with her husband five years ago, Liat’s been keeping busy raising her two young daughters.

Rob Raede – Vocals and guitar
After 20+ years in the wilderness of Wall Street, Rob went back to his first love—music. He is an accomplished guitarist, singer, and songwriter, and his songs have appeared in motion pictures and music videos, and been featured on local TV and radio. His first solo CD, “Saints & Souvenirs” has just been released. He has toured Europe, performed at major festivals, and is generally having the time of his life.
