Transports you to the French Quarter; An eclectic mix of blues stylings
author: Jam Magazine
From the get-go, these guys transport you to the French Quarter with an eclectic mixture of blues stylings. Lead singer/guitarist/harpist Chris Raynor is a confident frontman, his thick growl nails the mood on each tune, aided occasionally by the sweet harmonies of bassist Donna Rice. Most of the tunes are extended grooves that allow Raynor and his band to truck into Bluesville. An Ike & Tina Turner funk sound pokes a hole in the light-hearted Dixieland feel of "Smoke in the Kitchen" and a hambone rhythm infiltrates the brass-filled "Party til the Money Runs Out". The players are all top-notch, and work to create a real tapestry of toe-tapping sounds. These guys know their way around some standards, including the Albert Collins ditty "I Ain't Drunk". But they seem to have a lot more fun with the originals, including the quick-steppin' "Too Close to the Liquor Store", which complains of a no-good lover: "Always got someplace to go/ Always puttin' on a real good show". Crack open a brewski and get into this.
