Album Notes

If you love happy, sentimental, joyous Christian music that stirs the soul with uplifting choruses, sparkling production values, and endless modulations...

Then you probably won't like Souljak.

In fact, we bet that you'll probably despise them.

But that's okay.

For the rest of us...

Souljak's music represents honesty, truth, and joy, without forgetting other realities of the Christian life - sorrow, disappointment, fear, faithlessness, temptation, and the occasional uncertainty of the sovereign power of God.

But ultimately, one is left with a feeling of hope - the kind of hope that stands regardless of the condition of the world we live in. A hope that transcends the state of one's faith, or the wavering tendencies of the human heart.

On Souljak's self-titled debut CD, the 11 songs represent a unified sound and message, while venturing into various stylistic territories. They are raw, passionate, and deeply personal expressions of faith, love, and reality.

Souljak is a Chicago-based band whose music is a true hybrid of various musical influences. From Jimi Hendrix to The Beatles, Lyle Lovett to Bon Jovi, Radiohead to U2, and with just a little bit of soul thrown in, Souljak's infectious music draws the listener in and gets down into the nooks and crannies of the human psyche.

Yeah, they definitely won't be your Mother's favorite Christian band. Or your Father's for that matter. But again, that's okay.

Souljak. Music that makes your soul smile.
