Album Notes

Whether you're cooking in the kitchen or on the bandstand, Soul Sauce is that spicy addition that makes your efforts "come alive." So when drummer Curt Moore and vibist Jon Eriksen decided to put together a latin-Jazz group, the title, "Soul Sauce," composed by Dizzy Gillespie, seemed to capture the essence of this group's fiery sound, and was a logical choice as the name for the band. The tune "Soul Sauce" was recorded by many artists over the years, and even made an appearance on the pop charts when it was recorded by Cal Tjader in 1964.

The band draws on the rich body of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian-influenced jazz, as well as incorporating original works and unique arrangements of contemporary, standard, and obscure jazz tunes. The 5-piece group uses Eriksen's vibes as it's focus with support from Moore's tasteful drums, as well as piano, bass, and congas. The versatile vibist is also an accomplished jazz harmonica player, and several songs feature his Toots Thielemans-influenced sound.

Since it's inception, Soul Sauce has played many of the Bay Area's major festivals including; San Jose Jazz Festival, KCSM Jazz on the Hill, and night clubs including; Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, Jazz at Pearl's, and Mr. E's. The band has also proven to be a popular attraction at Bay Area street fairs including; Jazz on Fillmore, Union Street, West Portal, and Burlingame to name a few.

Soul Sauce-Got Sauce

This in my opinion, is a great piece of work. I play Vibes, Congas, Drums. So, for me, not only those instruments, but the latin inflection infused in the songs are well put together. Everone is in sync, all excellent players. For musicians wanting to learn more about clave you can hear it on many songs when curt hits his jam blocks for that pattern . Also, for musicians check out Curts Dvd Afro Cuban Drumset, "Grooves You Can Use" Highly reccommended. When Cd Baby reccommends they are on track Ericksen's Vibe move behind the drum pulse. I Love this CD
