I found this CD when I was about to sit down and write Chistmas cards, decorate our tree, hang the mistletoe, and get into the real Christmas spirit. Believe me, it was a real treat and a wonderful addition to our season. Great arrangements. Glad you guys got together and did this.

Like the new, rosy light of dawn stretching its arms over a wintry, frozen landscape, The Southwest Guitar Duo brings a crisp and inviting perspective to old and beloved holiday music. From Christmas carols such as Good King Wenceslas to a piece from the Nutcracker Suite to classical standards often associated with the season, such as Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and Pachelbel’s Canon, their 15 tracks are flawlessly performed and recorded; however, what jumps out the most about this album is the stunning arrangements. There is a fine line between “dressing up” old songs and overdoing them with embellishments and filler. The Christmas Guitars strike an appreciated balance between keeping the songs recognizable and true to their spirit while imbuing them with personal creativity and the ideal “speaking style” of classical guitar. Their arrangements are so energizing to the ear that it wouldn’t be surprising to find their arrangements in sheet music by next year. This disc makes for perfect background listening or as a soundtrack to introspective focus during the season. However you choose to enjoy the sounds of the holidays, give yourself the gift of heartfelt music; this is a great place to start.
