Album Notes

Souvenir Satellite began its incarnation out of the dissolving of a band in Texas called Tele. I was a founding member of that band along with Mr. Bluesky (a.k.a. David Trammell). It was 1999 and I was about to leave Texas to move back to Memphis (I attended graduate school at the Memphis College of Art 94-96) and start a career in teaching. I had several songs that Tele was not going to use so I decided to record them myself and produced Souvenir Satellites first CD, Exiting Orbit Now, which was released in the summer of 2000. The title Exiting Orbit Now defined my personal state of being as I prepared to leave the orbit of the town I grew up in for a new destination. The musicians were friends and family (my brother David Gardner, and Wes Cummings). I have now lived in Memphis for a total of eight years since 1994. The time has come to exit orbit once again, this time towards the center of the creative galaxyNew York City. It seems that when I am ready to move I recollect and produce music to leave behind as a markerSouvenir Satellite was here. I have finished recording the latest CD titled Lucky Peso . The collection describes my life since Exiting Orbit Now. There have been loves lost and found. There has been intergalactic spiritual reinforcement. Lucky Peso listens like a journey; it is almost a soundtrack to a movie yet to be made. When I listen to it I think of Willie Nelsons Red Headed Stranger or Phases and Stages, not because it sounds like outlaw country, but for its story telling approach. I trust you will enjoy it. The best way I can describe the sound is Psychedelic-Folk-Rock. The musicians are friends I have made while living in Memphis. It seems natural that Souvenir Satellite doesnt have the same members each time we record. There is something magic about working with new people each time. It promises freshness. The only constant is me. As I journey through space and time, making observations and collecting data, I process and produce. I am sure you will enjoy the work I and my collaborators are creating. We will keep you up to date about performances and other information. -- meikle gardner *** www.galaxiansong.com ***
