Album Notes

DJ Le Spam & the Spam Allstars blend improvisational electronic elements and turntables with latin, funk, hip hop and dub to create a sound that is unique - an electronic descarga.

Spam Allstars have released four CD's to date - Spam Allstars Contra Los Roboticos Mutantes(2004); Fuacata Live(2002); Pigs in Space(2000); Pork Scrathcings(1999), and two vinyl releases - vinyl #1 & vinyl #2 in the US. In addition they released Fuacata Live in Japan on Amsys Records (2004), and in the UK on Spamusica Records (2005) and distributed by New Note.

Spam Allstars most recent release - their first studio effort - is Spam Allstars Contra Los Roboticos Mutantes on Spamusica Records. The album was recorded at City of Progress Studio in North Miami Beach and was produced by DJ Le Spam.

In an effort to introduce the bands' music to new fans, Spam Allstars established residencies in select markets in the US. The first began three years ago at SOB's in New York City. In 2005, they continue with the NYC monthly event, as well as play monthly in Miami, and weekly in Little Havana. Other residencies have included Tampa, Atlanta, Gainesville, Ft. Lauderdale and New Orleans. In the summer of 2005 the band will head to Europe for the first time.

Spam Allstars were honored to collaborate and tour with Page McConnell's side project - Vida Blue - in 2004. Vida Blues' Illustrated Band features Page McConnell (Phish), Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band/Aquarium Rescue Unit) and Russell Batiste (the Funky Meters) with special guests - the Spam Allstars. This recording took place after a series of performances where Page McConnell sat in with the Spam Allstars, and DJ Le Spam with Vida Blue. The album was recorded over a couple of sessions in Miami, and released on Sanctuary Records in October 2003. The two bands did an east coast tour together in January 2004, as well as west coast shows and the Bonnaroo Festival in June 2004 in support of the release. A DVD of the Fillmore Concert in San Francisco was released in November 2004 world-wide.

Spam Allstars released their third album Fuacata Live! in 2002 to critical acclaim. The band were pleasantly surprised when Fuacata Live! was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2003. They were especially proud of this achievement considering that the album had been recorded live to a CD burner during one of their shows at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana.

Spam Allstars are DJ Le Spam (Andrew Yeomanson) on turntables and samplers, Tomas Diaz on timbales, AJ Hill and Steve Welsh on saxes, Chad Bernstein on trombone, Mercedes Abal on flute, and Adam Zimmon on guitar.

great disc...had to get an extra for a friend. interesting blend of turntables and very skilled instrumentalists. good orchestration, rather capacious grooves, and some tricksy melodic hooks. definitely danceable, but somewhat genre defying...maybe 'trop-hop?' wish they would come to san fran on this tour. =(

The Spam Allstars have come up with a brand of mambo for the new Millenium complete with funky horns, timbales , spacy guitar , DJ Spam on the heavy groovin turntables controlling the drum n Bass, and an overiding Cubaneo humor making this the fun-ky cd of the summer. Love the impromptu comic interludes with Mercedes and the talking dog.....Buy it you wont stop listening.
