Greetings Thighmasters,

Spandex Tiger just released their first self-produced album, “Dumpster Love”. So let’s get straight to the point.

Would you like a music genre? A fan from Santa Barbara called them “sleazy nor-cal buttrock”. I can’t argue with that.

Spandex Tiger is disgusting and intriguing. They are obsessed with garbage, sex, and partying in outer space. They have this ability to channel the raw, combined emotions of pride and shame, like riding on a Sunday morning Muni train after a long, long one night stand. Like when you think you’re ghostriding the shopping cart but everyone tells you the next day you were hovering off the ground like Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters. But check them out for yourself and see how it makes you feel.

On the album cover included in this package, from left to right we have: SMOOTHUPINYA (drums), Tanko Ray (guitar), Rich Filthy (vocals, synthesizer), and Booze Hound (bass). These San Francisco loco’s will swear to god they’re from another planet (as songs like “Comin’ In” and “Space Invasion” will testify), but close inspection only reveals that they lurk in the fringes of the Outer Sunset rocking SF State house parties by night and collecting cans by day. “Tijuana Handjob” documents Tanko’s sojourn to Mexico where he received some affection from a dubious source. “Waddel Dangler” recalls Filthy’s previous livelihood as a trench coat flasher for beaches along highway 1. “Crash Landing” is a quiet indication from SMOOTHUPINYA that Spandex Tiger may indeed have arrived here from another time. And through the anthem “Porn Fucky” we are reminded that there is nothing like audience participation when it comes to amateur porn.

Anyway, I found them on Ocean Beach last spring playing an acoustic version of “Hemorrhoid”. I instantly saw they had talent, we cracked some 40’s and the rest is history.
