Kind Regards Craig and Jolene.

SPARSE were Formed in 2001. There were 3 members, Craig, Jolene and Jolene’s brother Darryn. This was the first time we had Written, Produced, Engineered and Mixed our own songs. It was a long slow process, learning how to use the equipment, working day jobs and trying to be creative. You can hear a strong electronic presence in the songs that was created by Darryn. This love of electronic music led Darryn to move from Queensland to Melbourne to follow a solo career in the electro scene. Darryn left with our best wishes. So both Jolene and myself took over the programming with which Darryn helped to Fine-tune on the first few songs. From there we saw out the rest of the album as a duo, though it still took 2 years to finish and was officially launched on December 6th 2003, 4 weeks after the birth of our Daughter Eva. We would describe our music as “World influenced Electro” but not straying too far from traditional pop song structures. We use a collection of instruments ranging from the Turkish Oud, Vietnamese Dan Tranh, Acoustic guitar, African Djembe and Egyptian Darbukas, Male and Female vocal chants and melodies all bedded into Electronic beats, bass lines and sound scapes.

We have dedicated our time, money and lives to the Sparse cause. We have constantly gigged around local markets, festivals, café’s and street corners. We have written, recorded and worked our business throughout the years. We have been on our local news, played on many community radio stations, one commercial station that we know of and featured in local entertainment papers.

We now have a small but nice following from around the world and still growing. A new album was released on June 2007 called In-Transit. We enlisted the services of Jimi Maroudas, who is known for his mixing for The Living End, Pete Murray, 28 Days and The Avalanches. And Tony "Jack The Bear" Mantz, known for his mastering on Jet, Guy Sebastian and The Models + many more.

Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy. To hear full length songs got to www.sparseempire.com.
