This is volume 2, recorded live on the two nights of music at Brooklyn's Up Over Jazz Café. Spaulding's quintet featured tenor and soprano saxophonist Dan Faulk, pianist Isaac ben Ayala, bassist Eric Lemon and drummer Reggie Nicholson.
In his liner notes, writer Clifford Allen describes Spaulding's music thusly: a message that signifies the positive nature of freedom, the wrenching and the pastoral, the darkly-flavored and the ebullient, which all come together in the language that is improvisation.
This brings to mind one of the most poignant and moving compliments written about James' musicianship. In a Sunday, June 13th, 2004, "New York Times" article, reporter Peter Applebome/Our Towns, : "In Week of Grief, a Loss Closer to Home:" He interviews friends of Sgt. Frank T. Carvill who survived the first attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 1993, but was killed in a roadside ambush in Iraq on June 4, 2004. One of the Sergeant's friends, Rob Snyder recollects his passion for James' rendition of "God Bless the Child." James has a deeply committed desire to share of himself through his music, as well as to perform with musician's that share those same desires.
For all lovers of jazz , this is a great CD to add to your collection, and for those of you who already have volume 1, this CD, volume 2, "Round To It," is now available.

Energetic, Creative, Inspired playing by the James Spaulding Quintet!
author: Lee Pulliam
James Spaulding is in rare form with all of the fire and passion of his playing in the 60's when he performed with notables such as Freddie Hubbard and Wayne Shorter. This music harks back to the freedom of the golden age of Blue Note Jazz with a distinctively modern sound. Faulk on tenor and soprano is an excellent compliment to Spaulding, along with Ayala, Lemon and Nicholson. Being an alto saxophone player myself, I have always admired the sheer beauty and power of Spaulding's wonderful tone, which shines throughout! This is an excellent choice for players and jazz fans alike.

Another rare, oustanding release from Mr. James Spaulding!
author: ParallaxB
James Spaulding has been one of the greatest saxophonists/flutists of the past 40 plus years. Unforntunately, there have been very few releases of sessions or performances under his own leadership.
Every new release under his leadership is a treasure. This is an outstanding release. We can only hope that we hear more of him in the near future. Thank you, Spee!

Spaulding continues to play out his legacy
author: The Indy Outlook - Ken Skelton
Spaulding's followup to "Blues, Up and Over," continues when it left off...nothing but great music. Spaulding's band of young turks behind the legend, takes you table-side for the second set of jazz at its best. I have been waiting for this joint for over a year...Spaulding finally got "Round to It," and it was worth the wait.
