Speedbuggy USA- America's finger-blistered, blue-collared working class are clanking their beer mugs together in buzz-worthy elation, for they have found their voice in a rambunctious four-piece dubbed Speedbuggy. On a journey whose beginnings predate the boob tube birth of the Hank Hill family, Speedbuggy races forward as a pack-leader reviving American roots rock with a vintage country kick.
Their releases include the Mans Ruin release "George Owens" which featured covers by George Jones and Buck Owens respectively. The Porterhouse release "Hardcore Honky Tonk" was the first full-length release that introduced the band to the world. The releases that followed that were Cargo records "Cowboys and Aliens" that tipped a nod to the rock & roll roots of country. And the fourth release, "Round Up", made fans realize that besides rocking their fans harder than eight seconds on a pissed-off bull they could bring it down a notch. Speedbuggy's country-brand rodeo-rock kicks up an even deadlier stampede on their follow-ups for Split Seven Records "Six Shooter" and "Live at the Thunderbird".
Their fifth release "Six Shooter" gives fans of the band new songs reminiscent of The Pouges and The Clash and some old covers that have been with the band since the early years. "We finally got the chance for people to hear our versions of "Truck Drivin Man" and "Take this job and shove it" without having to brave the beer spilling on 'em and the DUI on the way home" says bassist Brady.
Speedbuggys 6th release "Live at The Thunderbird" (due for release later this year) is a release that is long over due. "Finally, someone got some smarts in 'em to record us live" says Mad Dog. What Split Seven records documented that night is what people have been experiencing world wide for some time now. A witness to the spectacle gave this blurry commentary, "They were on the edge of blowing up the place. I couldnt believe what I saw that night. I have seen this band many times over the years and I was blown away at the new lineup". This show in particular was a special one. It was the first show and 2nd rehearsal for new guitarist Don "Mad Dog" and the first recording featuring Speedbuggy's new full time pedal steel monster Gregg "Elroy" Mc Mullen.
Timbo remarks about the bands songwriting process, "Our songs are about real-life people working through pain and misery and suffering to survive in these modern times. It's like peering out the window on a cross-country road trip and seeing all the different faces sharing your own personal struggles."
Through the years Speedbuggy has had its share of trials and tribulations like any other great band on a VH-1 special. They have seen Guitarists come and go like a drive thru at the DQ on a Saturday night. One such situation stranded them 5 days into a 35-city tour of Europe. But at the end of the day the band shined though and completed the 35-city tour as a 3 piece. Some say the shows they played on that tour were the best concerts they have ever seen!
Black Monday- is a punk rock n' roll band from Los Angeles. Our sound combines gritty street punk with the lust and attitude of the Los Angeles hot rod scene. Too rock n roll to be punk, and too punk to be rockabilly, Black Monday's signature sound is a throwback to the days when rock was dangerous because it was significant.
Our modern world is filled with visions of angst, restlessness and disconnect, yet we are force-fed popular music that ignores our reality. Black Monday ignores the fashion trend of the minute and focuses on writing songs that tell the true story. Our live shows are best described as intense and high powered.
Singer and Guitarist Jorge Rosas was a founding member of Lester, a notorious East LA punk band. He met Bassist Rusty Sanchez in a Recycler ad. Lead Guitarist Dave Leyva is an old friend of Rusty's from the Lone Star State. The most recent addition to the band is drummer Scott Peterson . Scott was a founding member of Cryptic Slaughter, a seminal Los Angeles punk band that toured the U.S. and Europe with the likes of The Descendents, D.R.I., The Accused, Excel, and Dr. Know.
In 2001, Black Monday was featured on the Duane Peters Disaster Records release of Old Skars and Upstarts 2001 . A punk rock compilation featuring The Distillers, US Bombs, Throw Rag, Tim Armstrong and many other great bands.
In 2003, Black Monday released Six Shooter , a split CD with Speedbuggy on Split Seven Records. Together, both bands supported the CD with a tour through Texas finishing at SXSW. Split Seven Records is the punk brainchild of Phil Raves, the punk rock pioneer who helped discover NOFX, Dr. Know, RKL, Aggression, Ill Repute and almost every notable 80's punk band. But that was the past, and Black Monday is part of the new generation. Six Shooter
