Q: Why White Horses as a single?
A: It is one of my wife’s favourite tunes and has a great chord progression; instant recognition and nostalgia appeal transporting you to a time when most televisions were still black-and-white, not to mention the things you could watch on them. The version by Jacky is tremendous fun, but I felt a more vigorous ride would work; this is not exactly a Valkarie’s steed, but a slightly crazed over-excited animal being let out after a few days terrible weather perhaps. Liable to spook and a bit forward; snorting, flared nostrils, pawing the ground... Tune the Rickenbacker 12-string and... we're off!
The Speed of Sound is the 21st century reincarnation of The Blood Oranges; a band from Manchester UK formed in August 1989 and collapsing in an unsightly heap in 1991, but they were only sleeping; the intention had always been revive them.
And now
They are back!
Musical influences would be a very long list; but if the question is which artists have most affected the musical approach of The Speed of Sound, then; among others - The Who, Terje Rypdal, and Martin Carthy.
Lets begin.
White horses: written by Ben Nisbet and Michael Carr, published by Glenwood Music Corp and recorded under licence by The Speed Of Sound
