Album Notes

Drawing from the finest wellsprings of popular music, incorporating jazz, soul, funk, & blues, The Spike Band brings a style of music that blurs the lines of musical genres. The five piece band, made up of vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and trumpet performs original music, written by leader Spike Sikes. The group has been likened to such artists as Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Norah Jones, Maroon 5, Sting, Ray Charles and Jaime Cullum.

“What It Is” is the groups second album, and contains nine new original tracks. While this record has a very unified and connected sound overall, each track brings a different style and flavor to the album. The funk/pop sound of "Thursday", the Reggae feel of "Red", and the acoustic pop/jazz feel of "On the Road to Memphis" are just three of the examples of how the music differs from track to track while maintaining a sense of unity and flow. This album's appeal reaches across age lines, much like the albums of the artists that inspire this group.
