Spirit (1st Album)

I was so happy to find this album still available that I could hardly believe it. I have been a fan of Spirit since this album first came out and there is not a song on it that I did not or do not like still today. I always loved the Spirit sound with that jazzy influence. No one else sounded like them. Every younger person whom I have turned on to this album has liked it. I think that speaks of the real talent of Randy California and Spirit.

When I first heard this as a new release, it sent chills down my spine. "Fresh Garbage", "Mechanical World" made my mind real with both the music and the implications of the lyrics. These songs stayed with you. I was a big fan os Spirit's later albums, but this was the one. I always wished it had more songs.
Searching the internet I discovered my dream had been answered! The additional tracks stand well with the originals. The Cd has the same range of sound and gives the chilly, warm sound I remember.
Any Spirit fan will be glad to have this new edition of the first album. And if you've never heard it, listen, it sounds as fresh and topical today as it did in the sixties.

A galaxie of stars-after all-this led me to buy ALL their material
author: John S. Cramer
I first heard this album in August of 68 while I was attending orientation for the fall semester at U. of Md. I lived in nearby Rockville, Md.I had decided to stay overnight in a campus dorm because orientation ran all day the 1st day and started around 7A.M. the next.Early in the evening I engaged in conversation with a fellow student about music in general. We both soon discovered that we were both playing in bands localy; he was a bass player and I told him that I played drums for a band called Ludicris Sunflower Dynesty[L.S.D.] WE played a lot of Doors-Hendrix-Cream like stuff[acid rock]Well anyway he asked if I would like to go to his home and meet his sister who played drums in his band and was a big fan of Ginger Baker and some ex-jazz drummer who played for an unheard underground rock band named Spirit. When I heard the 1st minute or so of Fresh Garbage-I was drawn in-like a moth to a flame-now 39 years later that flame burns ever higher.[A brief note;for ED Cassidy fans:AN album exists called{Are You Ready For This- It features Louie Belson-Buddy Rich drum solos on opposite sides recorded in Japan in 65 on Pearl Drums with Jap cymbals-I set my musical standards high-so I figure Belson- Rich can`t be beat. What did mama say[ stupid is as stupid does]Ed Cassidy is the finist drummer I`ve ever seen. His fluid rhythms are abundant on this their 1st disc.If you want to know About Spirit and their music it is best to start here-at the beginning.
