The real Best of Spirit-25years covered by 22 songs.
author: John S. Cramer
When I first heard Chronicles 1967-1992,I knew I had posession of the Spirit tape I had hoped for 15 years. Not since the 78 release of the L.P. Live Spirit had any thing that intense been produced by Randy or Spirit.Randy sort of went through an identity crisis during this period, due;in part to rejection of his music by major labels.Mind you, these labels didn`t mind producing Barry Manilow or Milli-Vanilli;sic-sick.Imagine; a 4 hour road trip with Boy George-Men-At-Work or Husker-Du for your listening enjoyment.Randy kept our spirits high with the release of several discs throughout this difficult period; Journey Through Potatoland,Spirit of 84{great album},Rapture in the Chambers[great new Spirit]and of course; the underrated Tent of Miracles. All of the afforementioned Spirit discs are a testament to a specific time in Spirit history with a specific project theme. What makes Chronicles 1967-1992 such a great disc is not only it`s historical documentation of Spirit`s music [25yrs.-22songs]but the release of such gems as Somebody Loves You-Lake of Love-King of Days-Reeling in the Night and others.I ordered this disc from C.D.Baby tonight;I have been trying since 93-94 when I acquired the cassette. It has not been available-until now-although limited quantities are still available. Buy this while disc while there is still an opportunity- a Spirit essential.

For all Spirit and/or great 60's-style music fans

Most 50+ year olds like myself will probably be drawn to this CD for the stuff at the earlier end of this collection's time-frame. And though, to my ears, that is the best material offered here, I found the later cuts surprisingly enjoyable too. It's all previously unreleased studio and live material culled from the band's very earliest days, right up to the period shortly prior to Randy's untimely demise. Don't hesitate if your on the fence about this one, GET IT! You won't regret it.

What a great collection of music, way ahead of its time!

An outstanding sample of the genius and musicality of Randy California and Ed Cassidy, throughout most of their years as Spirit. In addition to Randy's world-class virtuosity on electric and acoustic guitar, the music weaves wonderful messages for living into the rawness and subtleness of what can best be described as world-beat classic rock infused with modern jazz, blues/folk, and country nuances. What a shame that this music has gone largely undiscovered by the mainstream - but then maybe the mainstream could never really GET IT. A really tasty musical treat! And, thanks to CD Baby, this great music is available right now...

A must for pro. and novice music historians alike!!!

This rarity is a must have for guitar lovers of all genres'!This REALLY showcases just how much of a groundbreaker Spirit was and I must say that it was due in large part by the guitar work of Randy California, the first to my knowledge of Americas'teenage guitar prodigies.Check out the recordings here from '67 by Barry Hanson(Dr.Demento!)like Hey Joe or Elijah(a much differant take than the actual one released later on their debut album;another groundbreaker!)Randy was only 16!!! If you want to know what was really happenin' in the musical revolution of the 60's you want this album for your own.Fast guitarist doesn't even begin to describe these two sonic blasts of progressive guitar history. Thanks for the opportunity to share my knowledge of these guys,CD Baby,I was waiting a looonnnnggg time!Paul S.
