Splinter hit the scene in 1997 with a musical style so broad that descriptions have ranged from "acoustic dreaminess" with "entrancing lyrics" to "industrialized throttle" and "industrial with a heart." Subsequent years found the band touring the east coast, drawing fans from New York to Florida and captivating audiences with an intense live show.
After self-producing their first two releases, Fragments and Sew It Shut, the band entered the studio in 2001 to begin work on what would become their most elaborate effort to date. Recording in Atlanta Georgia and removed from the distractions of their Philadelphia home, the band turned out the ten songs that would become their first full length album, The Emptying.
The Emptying (January 2002), is an appealing collection of modern rock tracks, combining commercial appeal with the lyrical and emotional depth Splinter's fans have come to anticipate. "The Emptying" showcases Smith's aggressive fusion of lush electronica, haunting melodies and pensive lyrics. The 10-track collection is still being hailed by fans and critics alike as their most impressive work to date.
Released in October 2005, "its not about you" was splinter's 2nd Full length CD. Also being an appealing collection of modern rock tracks, like "the Emtpying," Smith's haunting melodies and heartfelt lyrics have the ability to wisp the listener away and draw them into his own creation of raw and often somber stories.
Splinter released their 3rd CD in 2008 aptly titled "Splinter" which contains 5 brand new songs written by Smith and continuing in the same style of their previous releases. Being a digital release only, the songs are only available throughout online stores and downloads. From the rocking track "disappeared from me" to the acoustic "home." Splinter fans WON'T be disappointed. Ending with the final track, "storms coming" continues to prove Splinter's mood capturing sound, and haunting lyrics.
The band, currently consisting of front man/guitarist George Smith, bassist - Matt Cannon and Drummer - Marco Morssi, can be seen gigging all around their hometown area of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. They also plan to embark on another US tour.
Splinter's Web site: (www.splintertheband.com) has drawn fans from around the country, and even internationally, with mentions in online fanzines from Japan and the U.K. They are also well promoted by fans online through such sites as MySpace.com and friendster, along much nationwide appeal from Itunes, Napster and many more internet music stores.

"Splinter is a modern rock band driven by their catchy tunes and
meaningful lyrics. Lead by the gorgeous lead singer, George Smith, the band
is both musically and vocally talented. Their use of the acoustic guitar
creates a full sound in their latest album, The Emptying, which is the only
one I've heard so far. Their songs about love and the aspects of life are
very attractive to me personally because they are easy to relate to. Their
hit song "Carry Me" is one of my favorite songs now, and even after the
millions of times I've played it, I'm still not sick of it. Some bands with
a similar sound to Splinter are Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls."

from the first song to the last you can't stop listening. this is the one cd your collection can not be without. from powerful music the the mesmerizing vocals of lead singer george smith this cd is by far the most played cd in my stereo. i've also heard earlier albums such as Fragments of a Splinter and Sew it Shut which are also a must have for the music fan. every song is not only heard but felt, a talent held only by this band. what's most amazing to me is to see ppl fall in love with the cd who arn't even into that style of music, not to many bands can pull that off. The Emptying has a little something for everyone...proud to be a Splinter fan!!! keep up all the good work guys!
