Album Notes

Sponge has proven to be one of the Motor City's heaviest hitters after gaining international notoriety with 1994's debut album "Rotting Piñata." Emerging out of Detroit with hits like "Plowed" and "Molly (16 Candles)" Sponge received massive airplay on radio stations from coast to coast and were in heavy rotation on MTV. After "Rotting Piñata" went Gold, the band toured internationally, sharing the stage with Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Live. Sponge was also a featured artist at Lollapalooza in both 1995 and 1996. The band stood out as one of the 1990's most charismatic live acts. Front man Vinnie Dombroski's powerful voice, heart-on-his- sleeve lyrics and stage presence captivated numerous audiences and still continues to bring down any house he steps in. Sponge's follow up CD to Rotting Piñata, the critically lauded Wax Ecstatic included the hit songs "Wax Ecstatic" and "Have You Seen Mary?" They followed up with their third release New Pop Sunday and several Soundtrack and compilation appearances. Sponge's Idol Records debut, For All the Drugs in the World, is a swirling sonic attack that has it's roots in the classic rock of Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones, 70's glam and of course, the Motor City influences of The Stooges, The MC5 and Motown-but at the same time sounds like nothing else.
In recent years Sponge fans have seen the release of records like
The Man (2005) and Galore Galore (2008) as the band continues to bring it’s live
show to all points across the U.S.
2010 now brings the release of the brand new ep Destroy The Boy.A collection of songs that is certain to please the die hard Sponge fan.The title track Destroy The Boy is sonically reminiscent of Rotting Pinata calling back to the days of Plowed and Molly.

Absolutely Stupendous, Sponge defies all yet again

Unbelievable music here, do not hesitate. I was a casual fan of Sponge in the 90's, but man have they made a believer out of me. As I searched for good new tunes in the rather vacant new millenium of music, I found the cd's Sponge has been putting out despite almost no support, and they rock. So does this. Even casual fans of the early hits will like this, not just hardcore fans. This stuff is infectious, with emotion, great lyrics, and very nice musicianship. I hope these songs will see the light of day on a full length effort from the guys soon. Can't say anything negative about this EP, except I wish it was longer!!! Awesome music.

The best Sponge in years.

I really hope this EP doesn't fly under the radar. This is the best Sponge since 2003's highly underrated "For All The Drugs In The World". "The Man" and "Galore Galore" are solid records with some great tunes, but they both had this more conventional hard rock influence running throughout; like a Velvet Revolver kind of thing. I initially attributed the shift in sound to Joey Mazzola's departure, but listening to this EP totally shatters that myth. This is the Sponge we all know and love. If you ever considered yoursewlf a fan of this band, then you need to get this, now!
