notes
New England-based songwriter Jason Spooner discovered the family stereo at a very early age and never looked back. He attributes his musical roots to his father's secret stash of 8 track tapes. "My parents always stayed visibly hip when it came to the records they displayed publicly...disco in the 70's, pop in the 80's.", says Jason. "It was finding my dad's collection of tunes early on that really set me off on the right foot." Whether it was the intricate songsmanship of Jim Croce and early Van Morrison or the heart-felt soul of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Jason began to absorb a variety of styles and influences. "If I'd stuck to the Bee Gee's records that my parents kept out for house guests to peruse", imagines Jason, "things may have been very different...scarily different."
Jason was naturally drawn to the acoustic guitar and began writing and performing at local coffee houses in his teens. His unique chops began to take shape during a year in Europe living in London, England and then in Seville, Spain. In London, Jason became a regular at local folk and blues clubs throughout the city. It was here that he became known as a formidable songwriter known for smooth, soulful vocal delivery and engaging live performances. In Spain, Jason continued to perform in clubs, public squares and festivals. Deeply influenced by Andalucian flamenco and gypsy music, he developed a unique rhythmic playing style that continues to shine through as one of his trademarks today; "The Spanish players gave me a completely new vocabulary in terms of approaching the acoustic guitar. Their style incorporates a great deal of energy and capitalizes on the percussive elements of the instrument. So many songwriters do little more than strum...Spain is where I realized there was a lot more to it."
After Europe, Jason produced a demo tape of original music which made its way into the hands of various college and community radio stations. A producer at a local independent record label heard a track and invited Jason to join his operation which focused on Blues and American roots music. Jason's already growing interest in blues reached a summit as he worked for the label and witnessed the masters of the genre in recording sessions and on stage. Blues greats like Eddie Kirkland and former members of the Muddy Waters band, Pine Top Perkins, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, and Luther Johnson all had profound effects on Jason's musical outlook.
In the last few years, Jason has been building a strong following with little more than a demo, an acoustic guitar and a bag full of superb songs. His songwriting has emerged as a crucial strength drawing from a melting pot of influences while remaining strikingly original. Whether exploring the factual, the fictional or the psychological, Jason's writing remains consistently poignant, compelling and mysterious. Jason's distinctive vocal style is always center stage and has been compared to the understated, half-whispered soul of Kelly Joe Phelps and the smooth, casual tenor of Paul Simon.
In preparation for his recent debut cd, "Lost Houses" Jason toured as a trio which gave a solid rhythmic backbone to his well-crafted songs and unique vocals; "The band has really added a great deal of dimension to the record and to the live shows." says Jason, "We keep things interesting and throw whatever feels right at the audience...blues, folk, funk, country...you name it."

Great effort!
author: Scott EnslenI first heard of Jason Spooner on XM radio. I decided to take the plunge and purchased "The Flame You Follow" cd. Excellent in all respects. I found myself listening over and over to this cd. Due to the fact that I enjoyed this cd so much, I ordered "Lost Houses". The music is fantastic and I find myself listening the majority of the time to each cd over other favorites. I'm glad I heard Jason on XM. I hope he is able to make it to the Chicago area sometime in the future.

Great CD
author: MarionI heard the Jason Spooner Trio live and they were wonderful. There's nothing like a live performance. That said, the CD is great. I love that the Jason Spooner Trio blends multiple styles of music (folk, rock, etc.). They're a great group.

I thought this CD was done well and he`s got some great songs on the CD. I was also was impressed with the service I recieved got the Cd when they said it would be at my doorstep and it was in perfect condition.
I found Jason Spooner and his band to be very talented, at the highest level.
author: MichaelI enjoyed this CD very much, not only because the artist comes from my home state of Maine, but also because of the high level of talent displayed by the artist. The unique Spooner sound can compete with any artist or groups out there. I especially enjoyed the blues/folk aspect of the music. Each song was distinctively different, there was not a bad song on the entire album. If the Jason Spooner Band was playing any where near by, I would definitely go to see them. A definite MUST SEE in my book. Thanks for the great music Jason!
LOVE IT - Can't get enough of it
author: Tom OlechHaven't stopped playing it since I received it. Cann't get it out of my head. Love it
Make room Erelli & Co., sleeper Spooner is movin' in.
author: Jay JaschThis album fits right in with the best work of the emerging male folk/pop singer/songwriters on the scene today. Stephen Kellogg, Jim Boggia, Steve Tannen, Tim Warren, and Mark Erelli are all in very good company with the spoon man. This CD proves that you don't have to be a star to make great, timeless music. Superb recording, nice sound, catchy tunes, makes you happy to be alive without feeling like a dork in the process. Clear-what?
Wonderful!

Fantastic!
author: David MandelJason is an enormous talent and he puts it all together in this really wonderful CD.
If you can only afford to buy one CD --- this is the one you want!
author: Dennis HiltonThis is a GREAT debut CD. I always cue it up randomly with a few other discs during social gatherings and inevitably, someone will stop the conversation to say "Jesus, that's good--who IS this, anyway?" Having seen Jason and the band play locally, the CD is an excellent representation, even with the "tweaks" of studio production and additional background vocals. I say it's time for a live version with an extended rendition of One More Moment!
Excellent CD...Great job Colby Grad!!!
